Hi-flow = loud.
Anyways about 2 months ago I decided to replace my entire exhaust system from header all the way to muffler everything 2.5" after lots of reading. These pictures are all from my initial install where I had the Dynomax X-flo muffler but it proved to gruesomely loud (I have videos. It's almost just as loud as open headers.). I have since switched to the Walker 21856 Quietflow for the Silverado. Which although flows VERY, is nearly inaudible at idle, has a laughably strange sound at 1500-3000RPM's. Then afterwards it's pretty loud and sounds raunchingly awesome. So it's actually pretty good for the steal sound if you're just putting around and don't mind laughing at your clown-sounding car, no drone. While the X-flo was the exact opposite. Your neighbor's will hate you when you turn it on for the 10min warmup, and it is loudest at 1500 all the way to 2800rpm's. Afterwhich the sound turns from a raging herd of angry rebellions to a very fast sounding whoooosh noise when the engine shoots up - it actually sounds really cool in a different way.
As for the performance, it is noticeable especially in how the engine rev's very quickly and effortlessly. One word of note going from the dynomax x-flo felt almost exactly like driving with open headers and at idle it rumbled and gargled like a frothing racing car and behaved like one too. Once you get past 2500RPM's it'll make the next 3500 go by so fast. The Walker however seems choked and maintains a almost stock-like feel if you're just driving around town.
Pacesetters I bought off a member here on the forum:
Stock collector next to the pacesetter:
High-flow cat
Thrush Perforated Core 28" muffler
Dynomax X-flow:
Everything just kinda lying out:
I also replaced the black box and got a full aluminum intake to throttlebody too, I was using a K&N modified to work with the original black hosing to throttle body. So here's a pic of the box. So in total I saved about 19.8lbs difference switching from all this stock stuff (bolts are heavy! and so is the stock muffler!)
Video when I get my laptop back (left it in another state).
Picture of the exhaust on the car?
How were you running that muffler? Being a dual in dual out I don't think it would work with our single style exhaust.
I was in such a hurry while I was at the muffler shop I just hopped in and drove off without thinking about taking any pics. I'll snap some tomorrow with the walker.
Yes the dynomax is a dual in\out. But to compensate I had purchased one with a 2.25 in\out and had them make make a split right before the muffler. On cold mornings when I start it up a warmup each outlet would make rings.
I still have the dynomax so I will snap a pic of it later.
this is why the LSJ muffler owns... All the performance... none of the noise
