Well My 1998 sunfire gt is in need of a motor (my 2.4 litre is almost ready to retire she's burning coolant and starting to get very hard to start.) I was thinking of swaping in a 2.2 litre doesn't have to be anything special just run good and 2.2's are a dime a dozen. So my question being can I just swap out the ld9 for a regular 2.2 or will the tranny have to be swapped out too along with all the computer aswell. Just incase people are wondering why I wanna do this is because here it'll cost me 1100 to do the headgasket at the shop , it'll be cheaper to just swap motors. So any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks Matty
Wrong. It will be cheaper to pay for the repairs.
Thanks anyways guys and ya a 2.4 out here if you can find a good running one you won't get it for 200 my friend I wish or my car would be all done.My buddy sold me his 2000 sunfire gt for 5 bills so gonna rip the motor outta that and call it a day.lol
Thanks Matty
well i dont know where "out here" is but car-part.com is showing 15 pages of 2.4's for sale ranging anywhere from $2500 for a jasper reman unit all the way down to $150 core units. mind you these have all been pulled.
like i said, if you could find a you pull it yard they go for very cheap. hell the last LD9 i pulled from one ended up costing me less than $40. for an entire GOOD long block with all accessories, manifolds, fuel system and complete engine harness.
lol i think im sold... im just gonna pull as many LD9's as i possibly can honestly. i know where i can find 4 more right now, cheap too

You'll have one issue with the swap...
you will need to bore out the knock sensor port on the 2000 block.... You'll also need to retain your EGR since the 2000 engine does not have this...
if you want to use all the 2000 Components, you'll need to rewire the car back to the tail lights..... Crossing the 2000 line kinda sucks...
