Im trying to make a decision but i'd like to hear more advice. I'm leaning towards the 2.4 but i'd like to know more.

Its ecotec. and thats the superior one.

Both motors are very comparable...
Parts are pretty easy to find for both motors ... (though you have less BS Aftermarket parts to sift through with the 2.4)
Both motors can be built to make power
Since you have a 2000, Both motors can be swapped in pretty easily...
Both motors share the same 5 speed transmission (with a different bell housing)
Neither motor is superior to the other...
One motor needs the oil pump swap when built... the other needs the block sleeved when built...

x2, just see which one you can get a better deal on and whichever parts you plan on buying aswell to factor in.... Are you staying N/A, just swaping in a stock motor or mild build?
2000 Cavalier Z24 5spd - Intake, Dynomax muffler, Hawk Pads, Powerslot rotors, Sportlines/Koni reds, Neon Coil, MSD 8.5 Wires
2005 Mazda 3 GS Auto- Wifes car
2006 Cobalt SS/SC - Intake, 2.5" Exhaust, GMPP Brakes, Solid Mounts, Ported S/C - Sold
1991 GMC Sierra - Lifted on 38.5" Swampers, Too much to list off. For Sale
well i'd like to swap a stock motor a do a few mods. If i find one with some mods on it then alright, that would be fine. But i wouldn't mind modding it myself.
W41...
Either one can be built just fine. It comes down to personal preference and experience. Personally I want nothing to do with the L61. I have my own reasons and will leave it at that.
