My brother has a 96 cavalier with a 2.2 and he is doing a head gasket on it. The question I was wondering is are the head bolts the torque to yield style? If so does it really hurt to re-use them just one more time?
Factory head bolts are torque to yield, and yes they should be replaced.

Next question is there a difference in the 2.2s throughout the years? This one has rockers and I didn't know if they had a dohc 2.2
your probably workin on a 2.2 ohv (95-97.5) or the 2200 (97.5 to atleast 02). the ecotec is a 2.2 dohc but its a totally different motor....but like said before replace the headbolts. if u dont u could run the risk of snapping a bolt or blowing the headgasket again
Who knows the torque specs for the rockers?
Its really low... I cannot remember but I would look it up.
^^ def is really low, broke one bolt and had to use the easy-out. They are also the bolt style with the roller rockers as apposed to the nut and stamped rocker style
