TTR engine and auto trans mounts on 2200 = major vibrations?
Thursday, September 18, 2008 3:27 PM
I have been going back and forth for a while now on whether to get the TTR upper and lower engine mounts and automatic transmission mount for my '02 2200 Sedan. I had the TTR upper engine mount and RK Sport lower engine mount on my ECO Sunfire GT and they made it way more fun to drive, however the vibrations were pretty harsh when the A/C and/or defroster was on the 3rd or 4th fan setting.

I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with all three of TTR's mounts on an auto 2200 and if so, how bad are the vibrations? I am wondering since I have heard that TTR's lower mount is supposed to cause less vibrations than the RK Sport one. Also, I am wondering if adding the automatic transmission mount would make the vibrations better or worse?

On a side note, before anyone starts talking crap about these mounts being a waste of money for the 2200, please understand that I am considering them more from a suspension/handling point of view, not power. I am looking for ways to make my car more fun to drive. I am not terribly concerned with how fast it is .

Thanks in advance.

The tranny mount will give it more vibrations, but I have the upper and lower in right now, without the tranny mounts, and I don't really notice any vibrations. sometimes it does, but not often.

On a 97 2.2OHV automatic, with the TTR lower mount, upper engine insert only. Stock tranny mount.

Initially the vibrations are borderline ridiculous under certain conditions. Namely low idle in drive, worsened with air conditioning on. The whole steering column bucks and make the steering wheel "jackhammer" unless my hands are on it.

I since used HP Tuners to raise my idle speed, installed quite a bit of sound deadening material, and smoothed out my engine by using "Seafoam" engine treatment (which I think freed a sticking valve). Things are much more civil now.

Hum... so maybe I should just do the upper and lower engine mounts and forget about the auto trans mount?

that makes no sense the only thing there that would cause vibrations is the AC when the load is put on the compressor you know the fan setting and the defrost HAVE NOTHING to do with the motor mount. maybe you have a bad fan thats rattleing your dash but serious those 2 thing wont cause any more vibs then you already had

if you add the trans mount the vibs go down the reason is you have the 1 side solid and the other side is moving causing the solid side to flex and wiggle

i have all urethane mounts on my 3800SC and it barely vibrates

In my 02 SE Eco I have all 3 mounts and didn't notice any extra vibes when the trans mount was added. BTW when I have time the fan has to be fixed on the 02 GT. It makes all sorts of noise that I have never heard before. Do you did have some sort of problem there, along with having no lower blower speeds. This is why the vibes seemed worse when you had the air on.

The TTR auto trans 4t40e mount is the only mount that I have on it right now on a 01, 2200.The vibes are not bad but it does shake the mirrors little.I tried the prothane upper and lower mounts and it would vibrate worse, but a lot more torque being felt. So,I had just the lower torque strut mount and the vibes mere ok.Im staying with just the TTR auto trans mount for right now.It keeps the motor stiff with just the one mount.Brake it in and other mounts later.Im also thinking about trying a TTR lower mount.

Does anybody know if the ttr tranny mount is still being made??

Hope is not a plan. Change is not a destination.
