Het\y people. A friend of mine is interested in dumping money into his Z. I know he does not got alot, and i dont wanna see him but parts that wont work out the best with out other pricey parts. Any sujjestions on things that will show an improvement? Its a 01 z with a manual. I sugested a short throw and a strut bar, poss. mounts. any ideas on headers?

IMO, the most bang for the buck mods that will show results are suspension upgrades. New struts, springs, mounts, and bigger front/rear strut tower bars will give an extremely noticable difference and make the car more fun to drive.
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!
If you're looking for horsepower, cheapest is going to be nitrous.

knowing what his realistic goals are for his car (what he'll actually do, not what 'sounds good') makes the difference.
like Tinkles said, bang for the buck my s/c install paired up with my suspension/exhaust mods was a well rounded investment for a fast daily driver!
I also only paid $2500 for my mint condition 04 Cavalier and less than that for all the mods. So the value of my car market-wise (including the performance parts) is about the same as a stock Cavalier for my year, but with 100+ more horsepower to the wheels
04 Cav. 2dr. 5spd. My DD. 'Nuff said.
I'd focus on suspension mods since the daily commute it will be more fun, otherwise I'd go for boost.

What'd you do with the other header?
As stated, suspension is going to be his best bet. Lowering and sway bars have been my best mods to date.
It's only like $400 for a NOS Sniper Kit and the one step colder NGK plugs necessary for a 35 or 50 shot of nitrous...

Grrrr you beat me to it... I'd really like to know how you install a second header on a 4 cyl. lol..

Find out how much his 'buck' adds up to and we can help with suggestions.
There's cheap bucks: intake, strut bars, stickers, fart can, etc. $0-100
Medium bucks: header, exhaust, body kit, springs, struts, wheels etc $100-$1000
Big bucks: boost w/ tune, premium suspension, ultra light wheels, propperly painted body kit, etc $1000 and up

a lsj header a cat back exhaust a e-bay intake, port matched intake manifold and a good ve tuning power wise and mpg.
see ya!

um... what?
Ecotec parts don't work well on Quad 4 engines...
Though an LSJ Muffler will do the car good... Its dyno proven to flow as good as any obnoxiously loud muffler (flowmaster, dynamax, maganaflow, borla, etc etc), without all the rice grinding noise...
Oopps well sell it and get a ecotec powered cav or balt mild ecotecs are quick
see ya!
And yes i was being a smart butt
see ya!
I didn't see it mentioned, so sorry if it was, but what about an intake? I agree with whoever mentioned suspension upgrades, too. If you really want to have fun with these cars, you have to improve the suspension and brace the body.

Best bang for the buck is maintenance. Then suspension.
