ok 98 motor locked up, bought from lady run it out of oil... pulled it out dropped in 97 motorfrom donor car... all plugins/sensors plugged right in exept injectors, cam sensor, oil pressure sensor.. so swaped cam and oil sensor from 98 block to 97... got injector pluggs from donor car/97 and spliced into 98 car harness but car wont fire.... no spark what do i need to do to get it running? will 98 computer even run 97 motor?
What year is the ICM from?

yes pulled out blown 2200 and droped in 1997 2.2 and icm? you mean the computer? its got the origanl computer so 1998... i will try to upload pics soon... thanks
I know with the 2.2's on the 96 and 97 years you can't interchange them. If you try to use a 96 ICM with a 97 computer or vice versa you can't get it to start. Not sure on how the 97's does with newer years, but it could be the same case where you're not getting any spark because the 97 ICM and 98 computer aren't agreeing.

what is ICM now? could i swap out to a 97 computer, will it even plug into the 98 harness?
Ignition Control Module. It's the part that your coil packs mount to.

ok i have the one that came off the 1998 motor... just swap em out? but the 97 icm plugged right in? idk
ok i swapped out ICM put the 98 icm on it and now it has spark and runs for a few seconds and back fires through throttle body..
Did you ever get it running? kind of interested in this..

I know switching from 96 to 97 on our racecar you had to change wiring harness/computer/cluster and everything or that's how we did it. Had to take coils off the icm 96 and put on the ICM of the 97 and put back together. Had to also reset the anti-theft also. Sensors and all we switched over too.
Curious on if this ever worked out i keep getting bad 2200 from the junkyard and have a 1997 engine and donar car around just wanted to see what all it took

I thought 96 & 97 were the same?
May have been a typo 96 and 97 are identical and i did finally accomplish the 97- motor in the 98+ swapped entire under hood harness.... also make sure if you do this swap if you have a digital ipc then it has to be swapped to a mechanical thats the only problem ive had with the swap so far
