and make sure you mark the shift cables to get them in the same spot too
95-99 is one style shifter 00-05 is another. doesnt matter motor. search the transmission forum, there are instructions with pictures and everything, a nice write up.

Very important. I forgot to do this and I put my fore-aft shift cable in way too deep. I could still get into every gear, but when I shifted aggressively I would tear out the cable and have to pull over and fix it. I ended up letting it sit where I tore it out last time and moved it up a little bit.
At this point I'm assuming it's in the right spot, I can hit every gear perfectly and I haven't torn it out again so.. Whatever...
Basically, mark the @!#$ shift cables

yes for sure i well do this!!!
ok so i got the shifter in and works good except for 2nd gear it seems that its not all the way aka "there" like then your wot and try to hit 2nd hard you miss it.
it is as if the shifter isn't going back far enough to let the cable shift in the gear. so i did my first test run and found this prob out so i moved it up a little and its more "there" now but i think is could use more but thats as far forward as the shifter goes so what do i do????
i think im in the same boat i believe...
