you cant have tint on any of the front windows anything you want behind the driver the % thing is a huge lie ask any Police officer but generally as long as you can see through it your good

^^ Right on the money.

There is no set % for tint. They can't do that because every car is different. The tint being too dark is completely at the cop's discretion. The cop I spoke with said that in daylight, he should be able to see the driver's face from through the windshield. He also said he should be able to see your face through the side windows as well, but that's less enforced.

Even though your windshield isn't tinted, if your others are tinted enough, they may not be able to see through it. The 35% is there because 35% seems to be a number that's common ground that keeps both customers and cops happy. You CAN still get a ticket for being too dark with 35%

Bummrz i dont knwo where u get ur info ...... the ontario tint law says....Ontario - For the driver’s compartment, right and left, no film can be installed that would substantially obscure visibility from the exterior. Behind the driver’s compartment, any film can be installed.

i have 5 all around, dont have any issues, its been questioned 2 times however.

i think the fact that my sunroof is always open makes it much easier to see me through the tint, therefore i dont get bugged.

ok honestly I dont care because i have 5 all the way around but here right off the MTO page

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/Statutes/English/90h08_e.htm#BK117

Colour coating obscuring interior

(3) No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver’s seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 73 (3).

so instead of saying im full of @!#$ and dont know what I'm talking about that looks to be what the law is which states that you can have no tint to the left or right of the driver

Re: tint law

buddy go back to school u dont understand what u write !!!

anybody on this site should be laughin at u right now ....... u write it out in full on here and STILL don't understand what the law says.....it DOES NOT say u CAN'T put any tints on the front!!! its says that u CANT put any tints that WILL substantially obscures the interior from the the outside..... MEANING.... substantially = to a great extent or degree.

learn some english........ and if it was against the law then y can u buy cars with tinted windows..... think about what u have to say b4 u do and make a complete @#% of urself!!

i say LOCK this one for good !!

Re: tint law

BY law here in Caledon East = 22 % Front, and ) 5 % rear. Police officers are famous for handing out speeding tickets, but are also famous for leaving sport compact enthusiasts and the like alone for things such as tint, NON dot compliant bulbs ect. Different areas and different precincts = different pet peeves for the cops.

So it basically boils down to officer discretion.

In my experience it depends largely where you're from.
In some areas of Ontario the local authorities are notorious for handing out
tickets for tinted windows.

In other regions, you might drive around with limo tint for years and not be bothered.
That's not to say that you won't one day be pulled over by a ticket-happy cop who's in a
bad mood . It just means that it hasn't happened to you yet.

Think of it this way....

Let's say that you get pulled over and fined for the tint on your front windows.
You won't avoid the ticket by pulling out your trusty "tint-measuring tool" and
saying to the cop "Aha! You can't fine me, as you can see, my windows are shaded
well within the percentage of the road-legal standard!"

They'll probably just grin and write you another ticket for having a dirty license plate
or something.
