Possible to switch from power windows to manual?
Sunday, April 02, 2006 11:05 PM
I just finished replacing my driver side window last april and around october both my driver side and passenger side windows started slowly but surely die. I can't afford to buy whole new doors with with manual windows in them because I have a slightly alterted indiglo blue paint job on my car and can't afford to get two new doors painted. So I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be very dificult to make the switch? I know I would need new door inards and door panels. but are the holes already there for the manual? If the swap is impossible could anyone tell me where I could get the motors for the cavalier? I don't want to try used motors again because those only lasted me half a year.

Thanks for any help.

Scrap yard, buy the manual crank, remove the old motor and assembly. drill hole in door, install new assembly in door, install new handle. Done.

just get a whole saw for your drill. find a friend with manual windows to see where exactly to drill the whole. have fun.

Oh you can go out and buy 2 new power window motors and change them your self. If you know what you are doing. I give it 30mins each door. The new motors wont run you over $100 for both doors.

Do Gm dealers sell the motors cheap? if not where do I get new ones?. Used motors are out of the question.

bran new motors on ebay are cheap as hell. if you go used, get them from say a 4dr grand am, and get the motors from the rear 2 doors (assuming its a 4dr) and quite frankly you should be fine

i did my full pwr window swap for about $150 bucks

The only motors I could find on ebay are available to the U.S. only, and I have a 2dr cavalier so those grand am motors are probably useless to me.

i put the switch in today. windows work fine. its 139.99 for the unit thoguh. but i got hook ups on it. that might be your problem too. my window was clicking down but not up. see if yours does the same. btw, switching over will be more than jsut fixing the sweithc or motor. you could always go to a scrpa yard and get yourself a switch. all you need to binrg is a big flat head screw driver.

and you felt the need to call me a dumbass why? You said I could get the parts from a 4dr grandam assuming I had a 4 dr cavalier, when you can probably clearly see in my sig that its a 2dr. From what you said it sounded like you were saying the motors in the 4dr grandam would work for a 4dr cavalier. Im sorry you didn't make yourself clear.
