My 2.4 Sunfire Gt survived my sons 22 birthday, now the engine sounds like rocks in a popcan.....it rolls over good, idles with more noise than when it's in gear..... could this be a main bearing? con-rod?
If somebody has a 2.4 for sale ,message me.
In Ontario,
Thx
#3 rod bearing time for a new motor
It is always the number 3 rod bearing eh...
What year is it? You might be able to find a reasonably low mileage one out of a 2000-2002 or something.
its a 99 , the body is good, interior good, finding a motor hasn't been very good...
Any chance a bearing and rod can be replaced?
i am wondering this also, mine just started 2 days ago.
it requires a complete bottom end rebuild. AND to be honest.. NOT worth it. were talking 3000+ minimium once all parts and labour is taken into account. Buy a wrecker motor. Standard Auto has tons.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
James yeah 9 times out of 10 its the #3 bearing
2.4s burn oil from new usually about a quart per oil change sometimes more. if you let it run to low turn a corner the #3 is the bearing that gets starved because the oil passage to that bearing sucks thats why you do the 2.3 HO oil pump swap
sweet. I don't need to pay any labor. I'll just get the parts and do it..

its cheaper easier and faster to just swap the complete engine its not worth rebuilding

yea, sorry for late post, I have decided against the rebuild. And seeing that I have had 4 j's within the year, and 3 currently, I'm just going to sell the Z and keep working on the '96.
