Hey gang. Im about 75% sure i will be moving to Columbia for a job soon.
What is there to do in the town??
Hows the shopping, restaurants, ect
I will be living in 29210, is this a decent area of town??
Hows the car scene down there??
Not too many j's.... We are pretty much spread out all over. I work in the Columbia area & it's pretty cool.... Where are you coming from?
Canton, Ohio
I no longer have a J either, Scion tC here
Wow.... That's a long way from home....
Exactly what part of Columbia will you be in or do you not know..... ? I should be able to help you find your way around b/c I spend the majority of my time here. I live about 20 minutes away though...
im not sure, im reasonably sure that i wil be living in the Zip Code 29210 or something like that./ Ive never been there, this employer is flying me down for an interview this week, so i am pretty sure that i will be getting this job
Oh.... I looked up that zip code on Mapquest & it's the in the area of St. Andrews & Broad River Road off Hwy 26. They are high traffic areas at least for this part of the state.... I'm familiar with them though- my girlfriend lives on St. Andrews road. Let me know if you need some help finding your way around....
I appreciate it! DO you like the area (columbia) Having never been there it appears to be pretty nice, especially compared to this @!#$hole town i live in
29210? I think that's near the Bush River/Broad River area. You'll be close to the downtown Columbia area and the night time happening spots such as the Vista and Five Points. Traffic is pretty hectic around those areas, especially the morning rush. If you have to be any where in the mornings, I suggest leaving an extra 15 minutes earlier than what you need to. Plenty of restuarants (whether you want fast food, dine-in, or up scale, or the bar scene), entertainment (movie theatres, fun parks, clubs) or whatever else you're looking for in the area. I'm not sure on the taxes here, I think most places are 5% except when it comes to food I think most places vary but I think it's generally 6% all around.
What type of music are you into?
Alternative Rock? 93.5 is one of the good stations to listen to
Hip/Hop or R&B? 93.9 or 103.9 are 2 good ones to listen to.
Oldies? well there's 103.1
Easy Listening? there's 104.3 it's out of Augusta may be hard to pick up in some areas.
Top 40? Well there's 104.7 they play just about everything pop.
80s/early 90s? There's 106.7 they place mostly 80s, 90s and easy listening music.
There's also a USC (University of South Carolina-Columbia) radio station that plays Alternative indie music.
I don't know Columbia all that well...but I can definitely get you acquainted with the areas, I do travel and frequent in often.
And welcome to S.C., you'll be wanting to leave in no time, lol.
Oh yeah, car scene, don't know of any car scene down here, or any clubs that matter. I live in Lexington (slightly outside of Columbia area) and the most I've seen of car clubs are the modified imports and rather jacked up pick up trucks that hang out in the parking lot of Food Lion on weekends long after they are closed. You'll probably see more modified Honda Accords and Civics than any other vehicle. Not sure how different that is from where you are now.
Yep. Exactly what he said. Traffic in that area around 8 am and 5 pm is CRAZY... You'll survive though. The only meets I ever see is a lot of guys go out to Harbison Blvd (that's around your area) and hang out. Never really seen anything jaw dropping but I've seen a few moderately modded cars out there. A few showstoppers every blue moon.... James (or should I call you Ice Smooth?) I know you know where that is.... I live in Camden which is about 30+ minutes away.... I do most of my buisness in Cola. though so I'm no stranger...
You can call me James, lol.
And I'm very familiar with Harbison...looking forward once again to the mad holiday rush traffic starting after thanksgiving, lol.
Yep. Hey, I met a guy about a month ago with a red Cav at Jillian's. He told me he wanted to try & start a J Club around here... I never called him but I got his number....

Thanks for the info guys. If i move there ill definetly have to meet up with some of ya
yea...i lived in columbia 11 years and i am down there on the weekend. I also have alot of family down there off of broad river rd. In the greenview area, lexington, blythewood, all over so if you need anything just let me know. As far as the car scene you will probably see alot of Box Chevys on 24's and a few lexus's on 20's and trucks with rims...every now and then you'll see an import.
Hey so what's the word on that J-O-B? Will you be moving?
Nope man, just found out I didnt get the job! Bastards!! The Job Hunt Continues!!!!!!!!!
this place pissed me off. They wasted like 4-5 days of my time on testing and traveling for the interview and @!#$. To tell me i didnt get the job, they sent me a @!#$ letter Real classy
