Engine Steam Cleaning
Friday, December 30, 2005 9:25 PM
I am fixing to do some powder coating on some of my engine parts, but I want to completely clean my engine and engine bay. Any tips, suggestions, or just plain out need to knows? Strut tower and Injen cold air are Metallic Blue soooo I am doing my header, valve cover and few other parts Metallic Blue as well , and later a few neons for under body and engine bay. Any info as far as distributor, fuse panel, wiring that I need to cover? And also any suggestions on degressers or cleaners that you all would recommend? I am borrowing a cam from abody of mine in Eclectic, AL so that I can get some pics up as far as before and after. Hope to have them up by next week.

Your V 8 may have horsepower but mine has horsepower and better gas mileage.

i've used foam brite before (from the auto parts store, a 4 dollar spray can or so) its a blue/orange can. spray it ALL over the engine bay, when its dry, not wet. cover your alternator, starter, battery, and your air filter. possibly anything else you might think u cant get wet. once you spray it, let it sit for a few minutes, then hose it down with water. it should work quite well and you should be pleasantly surprised

I usually just clean my engine with a rag and soapy water, and make sure I get everywhere. The only thing I cover is the air filter. I have pressure washed mine a couple times.
In regards to powder coating. I'm not really sure doing that to your header is best. Maybe ceramic coating.
