Planning on making a trip to Atlanta in the near future for a vacation and looking for ideas of things to see, do, and where to stay? I know the basics of Coca-Cola, CNN, Stone Mountain, blah blah blah...what other things of interest are there? Neat museums and other historical sites? Where are the good bars with the good music (blues, jazz, alt rock)? What parts of town should we avoid staying in?
Also looking for somewhere affordable to go play a round of golf....must be somewhere where they won't mind someone who has issues hacking away to hit a ball more than 100yds at a time.
Anyone have some suggestions?
i've heard the Georgia Aquarium is nice. i haven't been there personaly yet. i'f your here the 25th of this month, we're having a ga meet at the atlanta dragway. it's an hour north of the atl

ga aqarui, is def a place u want to see, as far as golf there is actualy a golf course near the atl airport, that has low price for rounds, ill find the name of it, for bars and partying u should check out a city named buckhead, thats were all GOOD places are, theres also the i think its called the fern bank for dinasors, But if you really want to see what atlanta is known form u need to go to the strip clubs,

We will probably be heading back home on the 25th. Already have prior commitments for that weekend.

This trip is gonna be expensive enough as it is without paying $$$ to see something I can't have.
I would much rather take the woman out, get her a few drinks, then take her back to the hotel.
Gonna cost $100 in gas just to drive down there from KC at the current $3 per gallon that it is here....let alone what it may raise to by the time I make it down there.
lol. naw man theres all kinda stuff to do, but while ur down maybe us ga fires and cavs can meet ya some were for dinner are somethin, wouldnt mind checkin out ur ride

You haven't ever seen a dirty neglected cav before.
We shall see...we are trying to figure it all out now. Meeting up with some family down there as well so gotta figure out how that is all gonna work.
We will be in stealth mode while we are down there...the car will look factory other than the exhaust. No way we are driving 700 miles with the chuckwagon wheels...errr I mean my 17" wheels on there. Factory 16" going back on to smooth out the ride.
Anyone know if it would be smarter to stay out in the burbs and drive in each day to do the touristy stuffs or just pay the higher hotel prices and stay downtown? For example, the Fairfield at Six Flags is running at about $80/night while the Courtyard Midtown is $220. Ouch...everything we find that is downtown or midtown is going to be $125-200/night. Is traffic that bad if we stay further out and drive in each day? I live in KC which doesn't have bad traffic at all. My 22 mile drive to work each day takes 25-30 minutes.
depending onb how long of a stay i can get ya hooked up at a hotel in conyers its about 25 ,,mins. away. my wife is the manager at the comfort inn here, if intrested let me know how many days and i can tell ya how much it would be
Stay somewhere on the northside of town because that's basically where everything is! You can get a really cheap hotel somewhere around Buford Hwy or Memorial Hwy. Traffic SUCKS around 7-10am and 2-5pm

go to buck head and party out. .. is my suggestion..
Well it turns out that due to my lack of planning far enough in advance, I don't think we can make it to Atlanta as planned.
Hotels and other travel costs were just going to eat us alive...next time we plan, I will be doing it at least 30 days in advance so I can get my hotels for free with my points. Think we are just going to head into St. Louis and play there for the week. Won't have to pay for food or hotels there.
Thanks for the suggestions and information.
