Questions

Ok since I ask a lot of questions (being new to the J world and all) and I only really trust South members to answer my questions (no offense to other j members but i know most of these people here) I have decided to make my own questions thread, anyone else feel free to post questions here as well so we can all help each other out.

My question I have a 1995 2.2 Cav and I cant figure out how to connect my tachometer, the Cav I have doesn't come stock with one, so am I assed out or can this be done?

SEARCH n00b

Thread that answers every aspect of your question

If you decide to go with a cluster w/tach, you can only use a '95. I just installed a cluster w/tach so I'll have my tach adapter up for sale in the next week or so. Or you can usually find used ones for pretty good prices on eBay.

I was just referring to your question and the number of people who have asked the same thing in the Interior/Audio & Electronics forums...

This actually isn't a half bad idea imo.

kind of a dumb question but I dont know sh*t about short shifters...I know they reduce the throw but is stick also shorter in length?

Re: Questions

can be.

From what ive learned, GM pretty much made it to were if you dont have a tach, and you get a cluster that does, you can basically just swap them and the tach and everything will work perfectly fine... or atleast with the 00+ clusters... im pretty sure its very similar with the older clusters as well...

and about the short shifter, it isnt very often that they are the same height as stock... almost always shorter... the actual throw will be shorter, but with the addition of the shifter being shorter, it helps to cause the illusion of the throw being slightly shorter then it really is...

Kristoy you rock thx alot bro

The funny thing is i have the b&m short shifter and the pivot point is in the same exact place as the stock one so the shift isnt really shorter the shifter is on our cars. So to me i think if you cut the shifter and put a knob which i wouldnt it would be the same thing.

Re: Questions

ive gad about 10 people on cardomain tell me to cut the shifter so it wouldn't be the first time Ive heard that

Re: Questions

I've heard people saying that they've cut it, i just don't know how safe that would make me feel.
Mike, i've got a shorty, you can test mine out and see the big difference. I drove my buddies '05 a few months back, felt like i was driving a Peterbilt!!

PS howd those seats turn out?

Ya I like the idea of my B&M having a lifetime warranty on them so I know I'm covered LOL..... cutting crap that shouldn't be cut just makes me nervous when it comes to something dealing with my transmission

yea, that beaner owes me a set of headlights

in my experiences with VW, if the car didnt come with a tach, you cant install a cluster that has one 'cause the wiring in the dash doesnt have it, therefore, the plug will be different.. but like I said, VWs might be different than our cars..

and my car has a stock shifter, but the guy I bought the car from grinded about 2 inches off of it (makin it a stubby).. I dunno if there's a difference really, but I LOVE how my shifter feels anyway.. and I never needed one to begin with. I had a short-shifter in my red Z, and actually snapped it off at the bottom of the threads.. never went back (except for my CR-X, but it came with it anyway)

Re: Questions

I want to change the "flasher fuse" that controls the rate at which my signal lights flash because my seems to be going dead...where in the hell is it located I looked under the hood where all the other huge fuses are at but i dont know which one to take out, anyone know the replacement number??

Also my AC just died the other day, i have heat (i tested it) but no AC just air coming in from the outside, could this be my compressor??

Re: Questions

Is there a fuse that controls the fan on a j-body. My fan went dead causing my car to heat up when im not driving, i just want to make sure its not a fuse before I spend money replacing the fan. If there is a fuse which one is it? Thx

Re: Questions
Monday, June 30, 2008 5:57 AM
Geeziz Mike, i think u need a new car lol
Check in the maintence forum for the fuse for the fan question, not sure on that one

And i'm gunna steal your 'questions' post for a minute .... i need to know exactly how hard changing the control arm bushings is gunna be? Mine are shot. I was about to change my brakes, got the car jacked up, the wheel off, and im looking behind the caliper ready to take it off.... and as i'm under the car not only did i notice an oil leak (think it's not bad, but i'll be under the car today after work checkin for it) but i noticed that all the bushings are shot. (Needless to say i was so pissed off that i put the wheel back on and put the car back on the ground and said f**k it) Dad says it's not worth trying to replace cuz it's a b***h, is it really that hard??
And if i do it, is there anything else I should replace since it'll be ripped apart already? The car has 100K+ miles on it so it's going to be in the garage in about a month getting maintence crapola done ....
