i need to know the diameter of the exhaust for a 2000 pontiac GT im looking to replace the dual muffler set up with two new mufflers from the after market i've been told where the pipe splits (Y) it gets thinner. if anyone can help me out that would be great

Are you looking for stock size or are you looking for a custom size that you want to fit properly on the car?

For one thing the inlet size of you aftermarket mufflers should be the size of pipe you need to go with ,usually 2 1/4, 2 1/2, or 3. Stock size is around 1 1/2 or 1 7/8 or something. Most people put 2 1/4 when going bigger on the exhaust. Some people go 2 1/2 and 3 in but they usually have boost. I have 2 1/4 on mine and it fits fine. You can get y-pipes that are the same size as the extension pieces im sure.
