Ron-
Any idea where to source the correct neutral safety switch for my 84 Sunbird with the X-car 4 speed manual? This is the plastic one with the slider. The x-car parts (the ones can find) are all clocked differently and can't be modified to work. The Chevette/T1000 ones are too short...
Help Appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
Let me research into it a bit.I am going to drive mine tomrw and will see what I can dig into.I am kinda tired after working on another car today.I will post back what I determine.I am thinking to hard right now and need some sleeeeeep.I will be better thur for a better repsonse.Plus a nice blood blister under my finger nail(!#($*#@(#!~) .Ok
Paul I have researched this for over two hours and this is a !&**#(#)@)*$# to find.Just to update places I have looked, advance, auto zone, carquest(not sure there site will not show parts) napa,rockauto,racepages,A1 auto, carpartswholesale,jc whittney,gm-partscenter.com, and the list goes ON and ON etc. They all list the neutral safety ONLY for automatics the freaking (iDiOtS).I tried everything even 86,87 models and no such luck.In summory it appears the part may be totally discontinuedand I am leaning towards another option!!!!!.Let me do some more home work and humour me with some time on this.I know this is the switch at the clutch pedal no ? and have some ideas just let me pursue this.I have to work fri-sun so it may not be enuff time to dig into this.I know this is a no rush thing anyway. So in short it is safe to say ur neutral safety at the clutch pedal is NO longer made.Let me do some more investigating bc of sources I might have or a idea I have floating.Dang is all I can say and alot of other very explicit words.

I am actually thinking of converting it to the later floor mounted version if I can't get the right part...
Gotcha on that I did some more looking and it seems the part is toast on available factor.Good luck and I may doodle some ideas around being my cav should not be much diff in design being a 4spd as well. And wow I drove the little thing after sitting for a good while,da@#$% the car has alot of torque I totally have forgot how much fun it is to drive.I will start my axles after I fix two items on my daily.Do not need several drama projects all at once.
ok, GM part #14103396 will do the trick with a few mods $14.49 shipped from ebay.
This is the later, improved design...
Good at least you have a idea that should correct it.I still will keep my peeks on the u pull it in the future being I have the orig switch that is happy.I have not yet to be back since a wk ago.Too busy getting my NEW refurbished axle for my 87 mazda truck. It is almost ready, still have one brake line left to fit before the grand fun of swapping. The axle was a used one,and I have sandblasted, primered, painted and replacing the brake lines, hose, and whl cyldrs and shoes, springs to same me time instead of swapping my orig stuff only six months old.I touch off topic but, explains the delay on going back to the salvage yard for possible goodies.
ok it is on and works famously. Anyone who has one of the slider switches should just upgrade to the newer setup like I did - it is so much easier.
For the first time in years, I can stop talking about this stupid switch.
Thanks for the support...
