86 or later manual clutch interlock switch pic needed
Tuesday, February 22, 2011 5:50 PM
Can anyone with an 86 or later sunbird snap me a picture of the manual clutch interlock (neutral safety) switch installed on their car? Looks like that is gonna be my option.

I have an 84 service manual - no good, and a haynes manual that both show my current failed setup.

Any assistance appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul I went to my local u pull it wed.And low and behold a 83/84 J2000 sunbird! I immediately check for the clutch safety. It was lets say all junky.Plastic was froze up,did not work and looked nothing like the switch on my 85.It was a four spd and I DID finally GET the plastic sleeve for the reverse that pulls the plastic tie or string to fix mine HOT $#%@^ mn .They had another first gen cav but was a five spd and someone already yanked the switch those !#@*$(@ holes. It was like what I have mount wise for the bracket and what you would need.I am going back monday for sure. There are several 2nd gens closer to our yrs that may have the switch idk.Btw the j2000 switch did not have the same set up for some reason. It is def toast.I will pull what ever I find and post some pics if I do find something. No 86,87 models but think there is a 88/89 that were there. We must be psychic bc I came on here soley to post for YOU,about the switch.I will cross my fingers on finding something.

There is a "new" 86 Sunbird with 5 speed in a yard near me. Anything you need? It will be gone in a few weeks.
Couple of Cimerons too. One with nice black buckets.

Thanks for the support guys. I am pretty sure I don't want to restore my early setup - even if I find the switch. There is a reason GM changed it after all.

If I could just get a pic of the 86 setup that would help. Here is what I am thinking...

I have two bolts high up behind the clutch that may fit the newer switch setup. I thought on 86 and newer cars it was set lower with a second set of bolts through the floor pan. I just need a pic to confirm the 86 setup and see if I can make it work. Maybe a page from a newer service manual?

Iowa Pub-

I actually could use the oil pressure sending unit if it is not failing and not more than $10... I would be willing to pay to ship it of course...

HURRAH!!!

The part works!!!! 14103396 bolts on to the two studs between the clutch. I just need the pigtail and the nuts to hold it on and I am in business!!!!

I got it new for $14.49 shipped

ok it is on and works famously. Anyone who has one of the slider switches should just upgrade to the newer setup like I did - it is so much easier.

For the first time in years, I can stop talking about this stupid switch.

Thanks for the support...
