Don't mean to hijack but im new to the forum even though i have had my car for a while. I was told this car started life a pontiac j2000 84'. W/ factory sunroof. Sunroof has been filled in and cavalier fiberglass front end been added. How rare is a j2000 with sunroof? have no idea about interior..was just a body when i got it.

Hi Vic !! Tha tis a mean J wit attitude!

I just Love all the different ways folks have all of the J-Bodies fixed up, from all original, to a Fire Breather like yours :-)

I do have the data on here for your Make/Model under the thread "1984 Poniac 200 Sunbird Data"....guess I'd gotten a little tired last night and missed a couple of keystrokes - oooops

You can check out & copy anything on here I've got , thats what its all here for :-)

You fooled me with your Chevy front clip :-O I'd never guessed there was a Pontiac hiding behind there LOL

Let's see, your Make/Model came in base and top line SE trim only,no mid series hatchbacks were produced. There is no breakout on which ones had the sunroof, it was just considered an add on. Interestingly, there is listed a powered glass sunroof, and a removable glass sunroof options, both listed at $300 each. as for series production, if you can find the title to yours it will have either B77 or D77 listed on the VIN # in the 5th, 6th & 7th numbers. ( I'm assuming this is an original Hatchback bodystyle) Base Hatchback production was 12,245, and Top Line SE trim was only 2,165 - Very low and not many left I'm sure. I'm just going to speculate that since yours had a sunroof it probably wasn't the base model, but the SE came standard with the Turbo Engine.

Drop us a line and let us know what you got when you find out!! For some reason I didn't see your present engine listed in the options list!! ...and of course, Welcome aboard - to the board, glad to have you here!! :-)

One reason I don't have a scanner for my computer, is because I run the Ubuntu Linux operating system on it. I got away for Microsoft Windows probably 5 years ago. Linux works very well with the cameras and digital video recorders I use, but I'm not sure of software compatability with printers & scanners. Microsoft has a cozy relationship with computer peripheral components manufacturers. Linux doesn't pour money into the system, therefore the system ...well...tolerates Linux. The really good thing is Linux is free from viruses for the most part , never had to run system hogging antivirus software. Ubuntu does Upgrade the system version every 6 months, and I get constant Linux upgrades all the time, free and I don't have to worry about licensing, product codes, or old software issues. My God sounds like I'm a promoter....LOL, I'm sorry, some people do wonder about the pros & cons on Linux. I was trying to learn this stuff way, way, back when Microsoft was selling Window 98, and trust me, Linux was absolutely unusable back then.....but then - Windows was guaranteed to crash or your money back!!

Ron, I think you've got to have one of the most adorable original 1st gens on the road today!! You aren't doing your car true justice if you don't place her in a car show or 2 each year for everyone to appreciate!! She should be showed off ever now or then!!

The vin was long gone by the time i got it. It was just a shell on a tube chassis. I was told its was a 84 j2000 that a young lady had and had decided to wrap it around a tree with the front end. It had the fiberglass front end, doors, decklid and rear clip from VFN fiberglass for a 84-87 Cavalier. We found a set of steel doors and hatch in a local junkyard and put them back on. Also found the factory side windows and back glass, and ordered glass windshield. It did have a hole in the roof for the sunroof but i do not know if it was powered or removable, once again just a shell.

This is a pic before we started with the radiator removed.

This was a pic taken today with the new subframe and engine sitting in it for mock up.

All the js in first gen should have manual open, close and remove feature soley.Sunbird, cav same glass and brackets to my knowledge.Right now there isa 1986 cav hatch in my pull a part and got alot of stuff off it for john mac little trinkets and I have the front fenders both sides, some misc stuff. This car still has the side glasses and rear hatch piece with glass, some moron took the low style spoiler no gap off(idk why). They have some new stuff and will elaborate more on my junkyard post.
