Good morning everyone,
2 years ago I got rid of the airbox on my car and put one of those cone filters on the intake tube. I never drilled a hole in the intake tube and inserted the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor into it. I zip tied it to the frame of the fan that mounts to the radiator. Since that conversion I've had immense trouble starting the car in the wintertime if the temperature gets below 30 degrees. I know that everything in the car is good because I just changed out the sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, new starter, new diehard batter and the alternator checks out okay. Could the IAT sitting in the cold air of the engine bay be causing the starting issues?
The car also hesitates when I step on the gas pedal hard and will shudder and stumble without taking off if I hold the pedal to the floor. It's like it's not getting enough gas or something....maybe too much gas. I don't know.
At first I thought that perhaps my ignition coils were going out but that isn't the case either. The only real change I've made to the car without really completing it was putting that bloody cone filter on the intake tube and just clipping the IAT sensor anywhere I could put it.
So, in short...is the IAT the source of my problems?
Thank you,

It could be. The IAT needs to read the temp of the air going into the engine. If its sitting 2 feet away from where it should be, it's not getting the right reading. Put it in the tube as close as possible to the throttle body and see if that fixes it.

if your starting the car from cold, it will make no difference. <br>
mine done that and i had a crack in the coil pack, and moisture was getting in it
yeah i tried everything to fix mine, finally when i had the head off to change head gaskets i looked at the coil packs and it had a crack in it and where the head gasket was leaking antifreeze was going in the coil pack
Could bad sparkplug wires cause the weak spark and low power as well?
Cause the wires I have in the car are pieces of crap from autozone.
I didn't have the money for the high-quality wires that are blue so I got these cheapo 20 dollar ones instead. I've never had this problem until I bought those stupid sparkplug wires and those crapass bosch platinum sparkplugs (Which got launched as far as I could throw them).
