motor swap

I was just wondering how hard is it to do a motor swap from a 2.2 to a 2.2ecotec, 2.3 or 2.4 motor and what about the the tranny will it bolt up or would i have to get a new tranny too. and if i got a different tranny would i have to modify the shift linkage. oh btw i have a 93 5-speed cavy and my mechanical expertese only gose as far as rebuilding the head, but i know people who are more taleted than me.

That would more than likely be a wiring nightmare. Those other motors are OBD2 if I remember correctly. Why not just swap in a v6? More power and less work.

Thats alot of work, considering 3rd gens use entirely different engine mounts. It is possible, but it WILL require fabrication. The wiring would be the easy part, since you have to get rid of the entire 2nd gen harness and swap in the 3rd gen one.

i think it may be more work than it's really worth.

i'd go for something a lil' easier. like a 3100 swap, or 2.0 OHC Turbo swap

if you want to swap in the 2.3HO motor, its 180hp, and all the stuff that you need comes from the donor car. look for a beretta or grand am or calais or something as a donor car. the 5 speed and shifter and all will bolt up, and you use its axles.there is a tech writeup that i have done and posted on quad4forums, and v6z24.com. i have a couple of quad 4s in older Jbodies, and they are quite fast.

^ that sounds like the best option, I looked at the hp spec's for the 3100 and it only has 150 hp and takes up a lot of space. I think its going to be hard to find a donor car though.

wow i found a grand am with a 2.3 in the paper for $500 it had a blown head gaskit but, as long as the heads not cracked i was going to rebuild whatever motor i got any way. i could prolly sell the rest of the body for close to $500 and then i'd have a free motor minus how much the parts to fix it cost.

i would leave that car alone then. you wont know if the head is cracked until its apart, and if it is then its junk. you should be able to keep searching for a better donor car. be sure that its a 2.3HO. the 8th digit in the vin numbr should be "A".

go to http://www.quad4forums.com and sign up. once you are a member, you can view all the forums, including the FAQs where you look up how to install a 2.3HO into a non 3rd gen cavalier.

no, just joking, its not going to be a direct bolt in you'll prolly have to do lots of fabrication not to mention wiring, but im sure its possible there are a couple of people who have put v8's in first gens, i'd love to do that to a second gen but i don't have the time, money, or know how. to put in a v8 and convert the car to rwd.
