Well, the Z kit is coming along nicely. Got the rear bumper and skirts on...
And today I got the bumper mount for the front, so that'll go on soon as the car goes into paint (a week from Tuesday.)
Plan to have the car show ready before my b-day (April 20th)
Now if I get the job I hope I do (will know tomorrow) then I will probably end up purchasing a set of 3rd gen Cavy rims to tie it all together
And yes I will be keeping the flip up lights. Just gonna have to fiberglass a new grille...
Now, what do you all think? Door skins, yes/no? Im kinda unsure about whether or not to do it...
wat kit is that? looks really nice so far
89 Turbo...that'd be a stock 91-94 Z24 Body Kit.

"I consistently feel like something's missing out of the new cavvy. I'm pretty sure its 2 cylinders."
Put the door skirt part on, I have the same kit and I havent put on the door parts yet, it dosent look to bad without them but it look a ton better with them on its a lot smother.
Alright then, I'll do it... I'll paint them and then put em on, though...since we wont be pulling off the doors to paint.
I got the metal brackets and a buddy with a mig welder got em on for me!
bumper mount.... what exactly is it, and will i need one when i put the phase2 bumpers on my '94 stock Cavalier?
Car is really coming along nicely, 89Sunbird!
Thanks!

Thanks again, Kevin
You shouldnt have to change yours.
Thing is with mine is my car is a phase 1, and my whole front end is different, so that is why I have to swap bumpers reinforcements...which, btw, is the metal parts that mounts the plastic bumper to the steel frame.
ahhh yea thats right, same kinda deal as the fenders right? i never started anything on my cavalier yet, so i have this thing makin me think Cavaliers and Sunbirds are EXACTLY identical under the outside layer, lol.

They almost are....only diffs between Sunbirds and Cavaliers are teh facade and some of the interior parts (most notably dashboards and center consoles)...
you know I've been thinking about doing this for a long time w/ my phase 1 bird I'd really like to see how it looks w/ the front bumper, otherwise it looks really good.

I dont get why people would want to turn a sunbird into a Z24. Maybe I'm just retard but if you wanted a Z24 I'm shure someone is selling one for $700. Besides that, i like the red accents
help give me some ideas for my bird.
^^^ ummm cuz my sunbird's a vert, has invisible headlights and turbo 2.0 If you find a Z with those goodies for 700 bucks I'll trade ya in a heartbeat lol. The sunbird GT has ugly sideskirts IMO just like a black bar strapped to the rocker panel, no real curves at all. That's the biggest thing I wanna change

I like the whole idea of Cavabirds. (or insert name of choice, lol)
also its a bit more challenging for some guys, to buy all the parts separate and make an otherwise stock looking J-body look better, while having something to step back and say "this is what i / we did with some time, a bit of money, some work, and lots of ideas."
around where I live there are a couple of the "Cavabirds", i think it is a neat idea. Something you cannot buy from the local car dealer, you know?
personally right now I have a '91 Sunbird and a '94 (reg) Cavalier. while the Sunbird is my car of choice of the two.. the Cavalier is in better shape, and the Sunbird will more than likely become my winter beater. I have all the Phase2 pieces, and the Cav is not a z24. so i will more than likely just shave the z24 logos on the qtr. panel pieces. Not because i want it to be a z24, someday it might get a 3.1 but for now i just want something somewhat original... i dunno. not so much original... just a project i guess, to keep me busy and maybe learn me a thing or two in the process. everyone need not agree, just my 2cents tho!

so basically all you have to do is find a 91-94 cavalier and pull off the side skirts and slap them on a sunbird?? that simple?
1989 Pontiac Sunbird GT.. soon to be a 13 second car
Pretty much
For strongest skirts, you will need the brackets, though....and the skirts will just suck without at least the front bumper, too...
stock Z24 faster then a stock sunbird?
wow i didnt think it was that easy, man your sunbird is coming along good. i cant wait to see that painted
1989 Pontiac Sunbird GT.. soon to be a 13 second car
Goes into a paint in less than a week
Thanks for the kind words
And I K, yeah a Z24 has a 3.1L V6....Sunbirds have a 2.0L Inline 4...GTs have a turbo, though.
also some of the later model Sunbird GT's (maybe 92-94 or something) also came with a 3.1L V6 too right? at least as an option anyway i believe.
i agree, a car with the z24 side skirts NEEDS the bumpers... they dont match up at all with stock bumpers. a couple guys in my area have the skirts with stock bumpers, but they dont look as nice as they could.. ( IMO anyway that is)
Q. if you have the rocker panel brackets for the skirts, but do not have the top brackets... do ya's think it would be ok to rivet the skirts / door pcs. on with small (maybe 1/8 or something) rivets, if you were to just paint the rivets the same color as the rest of the gear? i was thinking maybe a bead of construction adhesive (i.e. liquid nail or bulldog grip) and rivet the pieces to the car on the tops. is that dooable?
man i'm learning alot from this little post!
