Ram Air Hood

I have the Z24 hood for now, but was looking for something different later on. Can anyone give me any information on the FXDesigns Ram Air hood? Can it use factory hinges and is it fully functional? I hear FXD are the best when it comes to quality and fitment, do you agree? I know everyone has different opinions, especially when it comes to styling, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me... so I'm just looking for your 2cents about the FX hood. thanks

i looked at it too...i do believe you can get it cut out so that there is air flow...but its not truly functional. i was really please with another FX hood fitment that i saw...

FX seems to be the best as far as fitment and quality... but they state on there site that its a Full lift off hood. which is cool in some ways, bad in others.

i like the full lift off feature though. makes working on the hood uber easy

but is there a reason it can't be attatched to the factory hinges or does it strictly have to be pinned down. the only reaon I want it to use the hinges is for instant access and I can prop it up. It'll be pinned in the front. I know they say it's a lift-style hood but can it be drilled to use the hinges as well is what I'm saying? I was searching on cardomain for anyone who's had the hood and saw this one guy with it. he didn't have it pinned in the front or the back of the hood. so I guess maybe he could answer that one for me, but I asked him he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Build your own. I'm doing it, but mine is an extractor style. The stock Z hood is very easy to mod, especially if you've done any work with 'glass.

well here's the guys' car --> http://www.cardomain.com/ride/689472

and well, I always considered that too, but I'm not even an ameture with FG. and I hate saying that, but I'll admit I'm not an expert with everything, by far. Working with fiberglass is one area I'm clueless in. with that said, I do like the design of the Ram Air hood. this guys says his is functional so I'm sure I could make it fully functional with the extractors too. anyway, check out the dudes' ride and I'm still open to opinions. thanks guys.

nope but you're right about his car, it's nice. as for fiberglass, it's not hard, and if you wanna do hood stuff, just make a styrofoam mold, cover it in tin foil and fiberglass over it, peel the foil off when you're done and presto! i haven't done it yet, but i've for a few things planned, and i'm goign to need to replace the hood i have on here to pass the safety so who knows.

u can also do what i did with my Z24 hood..i bought some LUND hood scoops and molded them in and cut out the hood so air would flow in...i still have to make a duct for it though
the holes cut

pop rivited on then fibreglassed.....jsut keep on adding mnore glass till it gets to the right shape then smooth with a LITTLE bit of bondo

im in love with your hood hec...im doin the same thing actually...but with a steel hood

I believe the FXDesigns is a pop-off only, because it doesnt have the added reinforcement around the hinges...just a layer of fiberglass, like everywhere else...

I like that Tyler guy's hood...first thing that comes to mind is a late model Firebird...

yea, it does resemble a late model firebird to me too. as for the hood, FX told me that it's just the top skin of a hood and it's not functional at all, they'd have to cut out the nostrils on request and it doesn't have a frame under it. even the hurricane hood had a fiberglass frame, it was just like a mold of the actual zhood. any other hood suggestions?

What about the newer vader carbonfiber hood that some got in the group purchase, who do you contact for that and what are the specs on it, price too?

i started doing that with my vl hood... before it got crumbled...

and my fiberglass started to peal in the corner because someone thought thed be cool and try to pull one off 'cause they didn't realize i was fiberglassing it in... (jackass's)
