Anyone know how to disable the dang dome light timer so it doesn't stay in after I close the door. Or at least where the capacitor is so I can bypass it. I've had it stick on before, and now I find myslef standing there until it goes out. I just want it to go off when I shut the door like normal older cars.
do like I do, set it to "off"
I'm pretty sure I have a wiring diagram too, I just need to know where the capacitor "physically" is in the car. My spelling sux
Hey wraith, sunbirds have a timed delay for the dome light.

Cavaliers have the same thing. the dome light is ran by the same little box that does the automatic door locks, and the door chime, and the seat belt warnings. Its under the dash on the driver side plugged into the same thing as the 4 way hazard flasher is. Turn your headlight on with the key out so it will ding and you can locate it.
Not sure how youd disable the light delay, inside that box is a circuit board with a ton of capacitors , ICS, transistors, diodes etc. I opened mine up and took the speaker out of it so i could listen to the radio with the doors open without that thing dinging the whole time.

All you have to do is turn the key forward instead of backward. It'll bing for like 30 seconds, then stop. Took me a whole year and a half to figure that out

Then you will run your battery down fast because the ignition is on.
Mine just keeps dinging forever nomatter where the switch is. If it's that complecated, I'll probably just leave it along. I don't like it though.
