ok guys here it is, i have a '91 4 door 2.2 auto and i wanna do a major weight reduction i wanna make the car as light as possible within reason, so far ii ripped out the backseat, spare tire and jack. ripped off the a/c compressor, condensor and all the lines. swapped for a z24 hood. much lighter. what else could i take off? what lighter parts could a swap? how much lighter are descent racing seats compared to the stock ones? thanx in advance guys

You could always gut the hole interior and put it all backtogethr without all the sound deadener, it dosent quiet down that much sound, theres tons of it under the carpet behind rear inside panels and quite often the stuff on the floor will be wet and that stuff hates to dry and when that stuff it wet it weighs a ton.
Manual windows and locks if you havent already got them, % speed tranny is lighter than an auto and a lot more fun to drive, I think a 4 door 5 speed would be awesome
thats all I can think of right now without cutting out metal, which I do every summer to lighten up our race cars down to 2000 lbs right now my dads prelude weighs 2090 with him in it and a full tank of gas, once after the feture he was low on fuel and the car was 2012 with him in it. So there is definatly ways to get them down on weight but it involves a sawsall, lol
I wouldnt recomend to much of that for a street car.

sweet. turbo dodges are the bomb, i can't get enough of them. i used to be a member of allpar but i haven't posted there for almost a year. i myself had a shadow. 91 2.5 turbo 2. 5 speed. was all stock except for 3 inch full exhaust and mopar performance computer(awesome part!). car was fast and i regret selling it, i just got tired of changin broken axels from dumping the clutch hehehe. so no u r not alone, i too have a special place in my heart for turbo dodges. u can't beat em. where else can u pull 12's on stock guts and less then 2g's!

actually in my local car club a dodge has the fastest 1/4 mile time of 13.2 he has a rampage he put a shelby front end on it and a turbo 2 with nitrous, hes got a 555 manual trans with a lsd that going in for next year. My goal with the sunbirds new motor is to beat his 1/4 mile time next year

which motor do u choose to put in your bird? and good luck 13.2 is a tough time for a sunbird. especially a 2.0 turbo as they are dogs. i had an 89 and i wasn't impressed w/ it. all it was good for was burning oil and foulin' plugs lol

I'm building a 2.0 turbo with a isuzu DOHC 16v head, with forged pistons and rods, might have teh crank hardened as well, and I'm putting a copper head gasket on it and propane injection so it can take high boost, along with a built getrag 5 speed and slicks to get it all to the ground, I'm hopping for 12's.
The 2.0 turbo can run high 13's stock by just upping the boost, and I've got a ton of other goodies going into this motor, I'm building the motor this year over the winter and putting it in just before summer starts.
