My car is in dire need of a new muffler since the stock one is wearing out; what do you reccomend?
I was thinking about getting this one...
Redhots
i put an OBX MV-3013 on my '94 2.2L. it's a stainless muffler with dual 3" tips. i got a length of 2.25" pipe custom bent and welded on, sounds good to me. maybe a bit ricey yes but i like the look of the stainless DTM mufflers, that's just me. about that glasspack i've never used one yet but i may end up using one for a resonator if i want to tone down my raspiness a bit. i'm sure one of these guys here can give you some great ideas though!

I've always heard a straight-through muffler is the best way to go so I guess I'll go with the glasspack.
most performance mufflers are straight thru... Except for Flowmaster... Staight thru is best for getting air out, but if your using a 2 1/2 inch pipe, with a straight thru muffler, it will probably loose power from not having any back pressure...
2 1/4 exhuast, with a high flow car, and the performnace muffler of your choice, you should notice some more torque and power.
...
Thanks alot 2g@heart; Question though when you mean "high flow cat" do you mean just get a catalyc converter and the muffler of my choice? Or the whole cat-back exhaust system?
Oh yeah, I was checking ou the Midas website and noticed they had a "performance exhaust" option; How much do you think that will cost? I hope not like 700 dollars
a high flow cat is a less restrictive cat... um, theres less of a baffel/resignator in them... basicly it filters less because theres a bigger passage way for air flow.
Your probably gonna have to have a custom cat back made, but you can mate a OBX race header to the motor, But you'll have to have the bottom half (the down pipes) rebent to work. thats a good step to a good sounding exhuast as well.
...
Flowmaster 60 series gets my vote. I've had about ten different mufflers, and maybe three-four different complete exhaust systems, and my current one is the best by far.
If you install a header, you will need to have the downpipe custom bent, like 2g said. If you want high end power, use the Pacesetter (4-1), if you want low end, use the OBX(4-2-1)
Any exhaust shop should be able to whip you up a complete custom exhaust for under $300, not including muffler and cat, so you figure maybe $400 all said. Or you can use a 3.1 system from the cat back. Its 2 1/4", and bolts right in and doesn't have to be custom bent. But, you're better off getting the entire thing done at once (header to muffler), it'll be cheaper.
Thanks for the information 2g and James, well at least 400 isn't as bad as 700. Midas has this thing right here.

Performance Exhaust
It’s a marriage made in heaven -- Midas, the most famous name in exhaust installation is teaming up with Flowmaster®, the biggest name in performance exhaust.
In fact, Midas offers you Flowmaster® exhaust and Ravin'® exhaust — performance mufflers and exhaust systems that provide added horsepower...along with the look and sound you'll love.
Why go with just any muffler when you can get a performance exhaust system that is unlike anything else on the road? Ask your local Midas for more information.
Midas whipped up my custom pipe no problem

I've heard a lot of peopel say flowmaster 40 but i've heard a lot about the flowmaster 60 as well, whats the diffrence in the two?
James, why the 60 over the 40?
The 60 is specifically designed for 4 cylinders, the 40 is designed for 8 cylinders. The 40 has a higher CFM rating, which produces less backpressure. Backpressure is needed for torque, which the 2.2 lacks. They both sound roughly the same (I've had both), but the 60 is the way to go.
Stupid no edit button!
There is also the 50 series, which has a similar CFM to the 40, but its bigger (or vice versa, either way). Both of them are marketed for 6/8 cyls, while the 60 is marketed towards 4 cyls.
So a 40 would be best for turbo cause I want to reduce back pressure as much as possible.
I don't know about the best, but it would be better than a 60. I've never really done alot of research into mufflers and CFM ratings for boosted cars.
I just know for boosted cars the less back pressure the better and I've heard good things about flowmaster and I like the sound of them so I'm probobly going with a flowmaster 40
