I have a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird SE with a 3.1 MPFI V6...out of the blue, a couple weeks back, the car began to drive very sluggish with almost no torque and a horrible idle and miss...the car has always been p.m.'d and tuned up properly and used to run great...here's my story...the catalytic converter was taken off and replaced-problem still persisted...next, I changed the fuel filter and spark plugs...some seemed gas fouled...then i changed the spark plug wires...it still missed and ran like a 3 cylinder!!!!...the coil packs are hard to reach, so i left them as a later replacement...i replaced the MAP sensor....it seemed to run good for a few minutes and then has went back to crap...most of the plugs were smelly and fouled again, so i replaced them...problem still apparent...pulled the wire from a coil pack and found one out of 6 to be totally "dead" and not firing at all...all other wires are getting power through the coils...so i replaced one coil...still misses and not firing one of the cylinders...all i can guess now is that the Ignition Control Module has hit the can...anyone ever had this problem or know what's up?????
Dude its your coil packs my sbird did the same thing. the packs arent sending enough spark to the Cyls. and all you gotta do is suckit up and change those coils. (mine are under the intake manifold) that was A PITA

Yea baby!!!!!
the one coil which is only firing one cylinder continued to not fire the same cylinder through the coil from the coil pack itself when i replaced that coil pack...there are three separate coil packs located underneath the exhaust manifold which is located under the valve cover closest to the radiator/front of car...the other two coil packs are getting full blue flame spark from the coil pack to the spark plug wire when you detach the wire while the engine is running...yeah, i know-risky, but foolproof if you wanna know which coils are sending the juice...
Hi Mitch
are you able to check the crank position sensor.
Just wondering if that is only giving five inputs to the amplifier instead of six?
It would be a cheaper answer?
just a thought

just replace the ICM, its common for them to go bad. Its the thing the coils plug into. Yes it is a small computer in itself, most poeple don't realise this.
