1993 Cavalier brake lockup problem
Thursday, September 08, 2005 8:18 PM
I have a 1993 Cavalier that has a brake problem. It seems that the passenger rear brake locks up when stopping. I also notice that the rear of the car dips down when i come to a stop, them releases back up when i start driving again. Ive had my mechanic look at it and he's not sure why its giving me this problem. Hes put on new brake hardware, made adjustments, put on new shocks, etc. He cant find anything wrong. Any ideas? Has anyone ever run into this problem? Thanks in advance!

Rear Wheel Cylinder.

had this problem, 2 times.replace it now before it shots the piston outta the housing and you have no rear brakes.

happened to me, i stoped with the help of a rangers rear end... was not fun loading a 2g with a body kit onto a roll back. almost depressing to hear it scrape up... it also destroyed my hood and busted my headlight mounting brackets so i had one M3 light in the air, the other on the ground

Yep. Replace the rear wheel cylinders. Napa sells reman. ones for like $15 or so. They're not worth rebuilding if they're that cheap!

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. A lot of people have been mentioning replacing the wheel cylinders. I will definitely put that down as one of the possible fixes for my problem. Does anyone think that it may have something to do with the anti lock brake system?

It is your wheel cylinder. Your ABS system has nothing to do with it unless your brake pedal is pulsing when you hit it. Just change the cylinder and you will be back to normal.
