newbie with some questions...
Wednesday, September 14, 2005 3:59 PM
Hello, A few days ago I got a 94 ato cavi with a toasted 2.2 for free. I was all over the idea because it has a few new parts. I've been poking around here since I started considering the car and now that I have it at my house I have a few quesions. I've searched but haven't found any solid answers but maybe Im searching for the wrong stuff. So sorry if I missed a thread that covered any of my questions.

First of all the car needs a new motor. Its an auto and I can get another motor for $450. Im wondering if theres any direct bolt swaps that require not much work. Im on a limited budget due to my old car not selling yet and can't wait for it to sell to put a motor in.

Also from what I understand the 2.2 was offered into the 3rd gen j bodies. However when searching for parts I see stuff offerend for the 95+ but nothing before. Now my question on this is will those parts work in my car?

I guess thats about it. I thought I had more but I guess not.

Thanks,
Tony

Welcome Tony!

I won't go too hard on you since you did try searching and sometimes its difficult to find what you're looking for because it may not be in the title of the thread (and I'm in a good mood right now). I understand.

As for engines- you can swap any engine that came in any 2nd gen. 2.8, 3.1, 2.2, 2.0OHV, etc. As long as they had the 3T40/TH125C trans, you're all set. The 2.0OHC turbo and N/A engines have a different trans, so without swapping that also, you're SOL. You will also need to swap the ECM/wiring harness for anything thats not a 2.2.

The basic 2.2OHV LN2 engine was used from 90-97, with several changes along the way. Read this article for the low-down on it. You can use any 2.2 part that is ENGINE specific, meaning, if you use an intake or exhaust piece, it will need to be modified since its designed for the 95+ cars.

All this info is here somewhere. You should really sit down and search through the FAQs at the top of the forum or visit the J Body FAQ site.

thanks for being nice. I've been an active member of a few other car sites for other cars i've had over the years and the first reply to a common question was usually "search" so I try to ahead of time.

Yeah, I was in a very "giving" mood last night. I normally just write search too.
