Ive got the chance to buy a 1990 grand am with a 2.3 ho quad 4 for $ 500 should I buy it
or not? Is it worth $500? It only has 130,000 miles on it.what kink of HP does it have?

If the motor is in good shape, this sounds like a good deal. I know of at least 2 people running this motor. One in a Grand Am, one in a Sunbird. Both of these cars are extremely fast (although neither of the motors is still completely stock). If you are using it as a starting point, you should be fine. Just don't think that you can drop it right in your car with nothing done and run in the 12s and 13s the way the do. Just my 2 cents!

The Quad 4 is a decent engine with a much better power to weight ratio than the 2.8/3.1. Make sure the oil system is in good shape, since thats typically the first area to go.

old school quad (in good shape) = yummy goodness

for that price, buy it, get the maintenance up to date, and enjoy!

well the car has been taken car of. the guy Im getting it off of goed to my church.
but it does have a little sputter from around 25 miles an hour then when it gets up to 35 or so its fine. any idea what that could be. he said a mechanic told him it was a fuel injector or in the fireing so I dont know either one wont be hard to replace if thats it

used to own a quad 4. The thing was completely solid, till an idiot mechanic was replacing the ignition for me (could get it cheaper) and decided it needed new spark plugs.. striped 3 of the plugs. Do be carefull of the oil system, I know they have problems. Other than that, great motor. They also like back pressure (and damn they sound good with the right muffler)

Check them out. They're a great resource for the Quad and 2.4TC motors. I'm "DRSCX" on there..

Good luck with your new purchase!
