Does anyone know if an 89 computer from an automatic will work on an 89 with a manual tranmission. I know that there are sensors for the automatic, but if these are not there, will it just run as if were a standard.

The only difference will be the idle. You will also have to rewire the PRNDL switch. The only "sensor" on the 3T40 is the TCC connector. I'm not sure if the VSS is the same for both though.

As far as i know the VSS is the same, they both have the cable driven speedo with the VSS built into the cluster. Like james said in 89 there are no switches in the trans like in the later years. I'm not sure why you'd need to rewire the PRNDL switch james? if he's just swapping the ECU only ?
I assume he has an 89 5 speed with a bad computer and only has an automatic computer to replace it with.

Also friend, you can swap the memcal inside manual ecu into the auto one, unless the memcal itself is bad.

Good point. I was thinking auto to manual swap or vice versa. I got ahead of myself
