1989 Cavalier with a sick engine

Driving home last week my cavy lost power, but I managed to get it home. Oil dripping out of the catconverter. Compression test shows 175 psi in outer two cylinders, but 75 and 125 in middle two. (4 cylinder OHV) Did the old oil in cylinder test and pressure came up about 30 to 50 psi in these two. Rings, right? Pulled head off and all looks well with that. No broken areas of head gasket. I'm going to check the cylinder I.D. to see what that looks like and then probably pull those two pistons hone cylinder and re-ring them. Do you think I'm on the right path here? Not much money to spend (so what else is new?) Your opinions?

Your on the right path, but you need to hone and rering all of them to maintain equalness across the engine. Also pull the valves out and check to make sure seats are good. I would also lap the valves before reinstalling them.
Hope this helps
