I've got a 2.0 NA OHC non-mpfi, and I'm wondering the recommended oil capacity for my motor? Thanks if you can help!
4.5 quarts then top it off using the dipstick.
5 quarts if your using a pf52 filter and 4.5 quarts if your using a pf47 filter.. thats assuming that your using ac delco filters.

Oh, and what grade of oil should I be using? I'm in canada, and I was wondering about winter oils? should a 10w30 winter oil be ok? what grade is recommended?
5w30 Under 75,000 miles............... 10w30 if over....
Delco is the best filter to put on there (and not cause thats the house brand... there is somethin extra in the filter... )
but failing that ... purolater is my choice in filter...
as for oil...
i run Synthetic blend in my car... this is only because i have a rear main seal leak and synthetic finds leaks quicker than conventional oil...
You basically have three choices in Oil
1) conventional... made from dynosaurs...
2) Synthetic blend --- 50/50 conventional / synthetic... like a midgrade oil
3) Synthetic --- best oil to run... you get 5000 - 7500 miles on your oil... Mobil 1 Forumlates its oil down to the atom... think of a rocky road... thats conventional oil.. now think of a freshly paved road... thats synthetic... synthetic elimnates all additional wear on the motor...
I went to MR. Lube for an oil change this morning, I got the high mileage package, with Castrol GTX 5w30 (for winter), the syn blend, and new tranny fluid, Castrol Synchromesh, and i got a (i think this one's the filter) Kralinator L147
never heard of that filter name before... You should do it yourself.. those "jiffy lube's" and grease mokeys are a waste of money, not to mention half of them don't really know what they are doing.... I used to work at a GM dealer. and at least every week there would be a car that came in for a new engine replacement because some knucklehead forgot to either put the drain plug back in or forgot to put the oil in or something.. and of course the people who drive the cars out of the shop doesn't know anybetter when they start to hear the engine knock like a mother... but castrol is ok... just out of curiousity how much did you pay for your oil change?

too much, but hey, there's snow on the ground and it's freezing, i don't have a jack or axle stands, and it's cheaper than if i went and got those in the short run, in the spring my bro and i are gonna split on a jack and axle stands, and then he can keep them in his garage, my apartment doesn't have a garage.

good luck with the castrol... ewwwwww... put castrol syntek and Mobil 1 on a hot plate next to each other... the castrol catches fire while the mobil 1 is just chillin... Mobil 1 has a flash point of nearly 450 degrees farenheit...
and they should have put 10 w 30 ... thats better for vehicles calling for 5 w 30 after 75000 miles (im not sure where that converts to Kilometers... but high milage is considered 75000 miles and above)
ive never heard of that filter either... your best bet (if you dont wanna do it yourself) is find someone who carries Delco or Purolator filters... (forgot the delco number but its Purolator L10111)
for the tranny fluid... (if its Automatic) they used Dexron right???

Hey i take exception to that....
there is a reason quick lubes exist and make money... the majority of car owners do not want to change their own oil...
now most of the places that do oil changes cheaper... including the dealer... i guarantee will not get you back on the road within 10 minutes...
so its speed and luxury at a price
But where we make it back to the customers is additional services... i only recommend additional services is if its due by milage.. (Which i get all specs from OEM)
In every additonal service we do, we under cut every single dealer by at least $75... and the sad thing is for the dealers... we have the same Wynn's machines and products... and distributor as they do...
Yeah, i was in and out within 20 minutes, i got a free newspaper, and coffee as well!
"for the tranny fluid... (if its Automatic) they used Dexron right???"
who really drives an automatic? in an automatic the car drives you, in a manual you drive the car.
I use a Bosch oil filter in my Sunbird and 10w40 Castrol, and I have had pretty good luck.
10 w 40?????????
you know js use 30 weight oil right????? i'd hate to see your seals and rings right now
0, 5, 10, 15, 20 are winter grades... hense the "W" after it ... but the last number is the weight of the oil... 20,30,40,50 ... then you have gear lube (for your manual trans and differentials) 75, 85, 145

The turbo ones are slightly different. It shows to use either 10w30, 30wt, or 10w40 depending on the temperature. Ohh, and the rings and seals are doing great.
i should prolly look at what engine people have before i say things...
i was thinkin the2.0 NA, 2.2 or 3.1 and those who dropped the 3.4... those call for 30 wt explictly...
you gotta figure they changed enough from the 2.0 NA to the 2.0 turbo... and i assume a tolerance for 40 weight oil came with it... thats one motor i've never messed with (not too many people in my region of va still have em... ... the quad 4 is becoming that way also... hard to find anywhere out of the junkyard ... )
