i have a question for every1's turbo sunbird out there. does your stock turbo guage hit 15+ everytime you floor it like mine? or is mine just messed up?
1989 Pontiac Sunbird GT - LT3
my buddies car is hittin 15 and staying there, shortly folled by the check engine light and a serious loss of power (going into failsafe).
is yours spiking 15lb and dropping back down, or does it stay there???
mine spiked 10, but it ended up blowing the headgasket.... lol.
...
The boost guage is way off.....you better have an intercooler if you truly are running 15psi. Im running 10 with no turbo mods.....just a new wastegate actuator.
The boost guage registers it in in/hg. When I hook up my scan tool and run it all out I get readings of 26 or 27 in/hg of boost. Split that roughly in half and that is what your boost is in psi.
My guage reads -100 ----- 100+.........how do you read that haha.
my guage reads -15 to +15. it hits 20 if there would be a 20 on the guage and stays there, it doesnt shut the fuel or anything. i doubted i was really running 15psi tho. but the in/hg thing makes sense, so i guess im boostin around 10. isnt stock only 7lbs tho?

The stock gauge is extremely inaccurate at anything other then stock boost I thought I was running 15 psi at one point and I was actually only running like 10-11. I HIGHLY reccomend getting a MECHANICAL boost gauge in there, like an autometer. I have mine tapped off the back of hte manifold with the lines going to cruise control IIRC?
