Hey guys.. haven't posted here much but I read alot of the stuff posted here. Anyway, was wondering if anyone had a 2nd gen with as many miles as mine on the original motor. Have a '90 Cavalier 2.2 with 277,000 miles, and after a head gasket, a set of lifters, and a timing set, it still runs.. and I drive the crap out of it every day. One day soon I will pull it and tear it down, it's getting kind of noisy and starting to vibrate more than it should, but no bearing knock, just valvetrain noise. I'm excited, getting pro kit springs and shocks and struts in a couple of days. Then just need to have a front pipe made so that I can mount the 30mm front swaybar that I have. I just have 1 question.. anyone ever tried to mount 2.0L Turbo exhaust manifold on 2.2L OHV head? Merry Christmas
Thats some impressive mileage!
The 2.0 OHC manifold won't bolt to the 2.2 OHV head. The ports are different, as well as the bolt pattern.
I have about 135K

my 89 cavy 207,xxx miles the only repairs: headgasket at 204k miles, couple alternators, new radiator, new heater core.
On my 91 Sunbird ... You all are going to laugh but, I just put 60,000 on it today.
mine is close, i had 400k km (about 256k miles) and it never had anything done except the valve cover gaskets. it was never opened up, and has the carbon and sludge to show it. i pulled the motor in summer to put my built motor in, and have yet to see what the old motor is like inside.
btw: its a 2.8l gen 1 motor, meaning cast heads.
my cars got 226,060Km's or 140,467miles and its a 91 still the original motori think, who knows it might just be the body and speedo with those miles as the car still pulls like a mother.
Juiced Towncar
i have 186,000kms on my '94 2.2 not sure what was done to it in the past, i just got it in May but the thing runs great, no knocking or tapping or anything yet its soo quiet under the hood

Mine's estimated at 300,000+ We really don't know, it said 198K when we bought it, then it rolled back to 194 and has been stuck there for over two years. We weren't paying attention when I test drove it, and we later discovered that the @!#$ we bought it from rolled the odo back.

Buddy of mine had a cavi with the four banger motor. He drove it hard, neutral bombs, overreving, late shifting, and trying to see if it had a rev limiter. I believe it was at 260,xxx when he was down at the stripe, leaving he decided to rev it WAY up. Halfway home the car started spewing smoke. He parked it. I believe it bent a COUPLE valves but i can't remember. He drives a 94 z24 now with 220,xxx on it. Crack head drives it just as hard as his old one.
My '94 Sunbird's got just over 193,000 KMs on it. My old '89 Chrysler had 248,xxx on it before I sold it in September for the Sunbird
My friend's parents had a Jimmy awhile ago... the thing rolled over twice I believe, then my friend ran through an intersection and hit a car with it.
i have 165,xxx Ignition Coils, Radiator, Several Alternators, 2 head gaskets, all fuel injectors...
Originial Timing Chain... WOOOT
137k. The day I registered it the pressure plate fails. So if anyone has a clutch kit or anything available or can find one for really cheap email me.
well my 90 (the body) has about 135,xxx but the engine has bout 13,xxx bought it brand crate new.
**changes are here**
My 2.2 had over 260,000 then like a dumb @ss I tore it down it still sits waiting for me put it back together.
At 80,000 Some girl drive it home in second gear for like 30 miles (no joke, stupid b!tch) She said it wouldn't go in to third yeah right, anyhow, new bearings, head gasket , oil pump (just to be safe) , and the valve train stuff. Good as new the really funny thing was I never did anything to the tranny and drove it for five more years no problems.
And I drive fast, tear off from stoplights, even did the no warm up in the winter thing all the time.

I through a rod at 97,XXX swapped another motor that had about the same on it! On the old motor i changed all injectors couple altinators. On the new motor I changed the heater core!
ooooh add heater core to my list....
and i have ^^^^ old head =P
yeah, that plastic heater core isn't worth it's weight in crap. good thing the replacement part is aluminum
my '91 wagon shows 109xxx miles on the odometer, likely closer to 117k on the body, as the speedo and odo didn't work for about a year or so. silly w-body computer!
repairs and replacements? um, i think the simple answer would be "yes". see registry for details...
latest boo boo is a dead 4th gear. transmission has yet to be replaced (again).
Have you seen the turbo wagon?

I've got a '90 Cavalier 3.1, had to replace a CV joint around 185,000km (115,000 miles), threw in a clutch kit at around 270,000km (168,000 miles), and haven't had to do anything else to it. Has just under 379,000km (235,000 miles) on it now. Has a lot of pizza delivery miles on it, doesn't burn oil, runs great. Get about 27mpg in it. (Imperial gallons, mind you. I'm in Canada, in case the km didn't already tell you that, hehe) So I guess that's about 22.5mpg in US gallons.
just south of 120,000
no major replaces in my possession

Now at 280,476 miles. It might make it to 300k, I wouldn't bet against it.
I passed 130,000 2 days before the motor went...
