Vacuum Troubles

90 2.2 5spd

Been fighting troubles with my vacuum lines: First the AC starting acting up, then the heat (both due to the damper door not responding), and now I've failed my emissions test. I'm pretty sure the vacuum line to the EGR (Neg P) valve is to blame (I've recently replaced my emission control system - cat, O2 sensor, EGR, plugs, wires). NOX was high, everything else was beautiful.

Pulled the vacuum line from the throttle body. Didn't see any problems. After replacing it, however, the damper door seemed to move just fine (from heat to AC). I've already chased 90% of the lines, where I did find one leaking hose and replaced it.

Tomorrow I'm cleaning the throttle body. If that doesn't do it, I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

Don't forget to check the manifold gaskets for leaks as well as the EGR valve gasket, Throttle body gasket, and the fitment of the hoses. That's about the bet I can tell ya. Later

Good point. I might as well clean the intake manifold while I'm at it. Thanks.

OK. So I'm pulling the throttle body and intake manifold to clean, dress and replace gaskets.

Would it be alot more work to replace the Head Gasket while the IM is off? Or should I wait until I start my first rebuild in a couple months?

I would wait since it is a pita, and since you have to replace the head bolts too. May as well wait.

Yeah, I'm going to wait. The leak is small and I plan on doing a MPFI swap with the rebuild - so I'll have to replace the head anyway.

After researching how to pull the head, I'm curious: do you need a special tool to remove the rocker arms?

I never used anything but a deep well socket.
