Bouncing idle
Tuesday, January 10, 2006 9:28 PM
I just got my Z back from the shop because the spark plug blew out of the head. I have it in storage and every time i go to let it run the idle bounces betwwen 500 and 1200 rpms. My buddy thinks it's the throttle position sensor. It's not the gas because i put new gas in it. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,
Nick

Theres a few things it could be, TPS is a good start and an easy swap out. I'd Check on the Air Idle. Start it up and see if your getting your crazy idle if you are shut it off and unplug the TPS and see if theres any change. More than likely its TPS or Air Idle. A vaccum leak will be constant and unvaried (generally)

did you do the idle relearn procedure? The shop may have overlooked this, and it's something that needs to be done every time the battery's been disconnected or died. The 'hunting' that you are witnessing is a symptom of not having gone through the procedure. Eventually it usually goes away after some driving anyway, but the best thing to do is go through the procedure before you take it out driving.
