Daewoo 2.0 head swap
Thursday, January 12, 2006 2:23 AM

Due to the coolant temp sensor going out on my car I now have a blown head gasket (93 sunbird 2.0 mpfi). Ive been trying to decide whether to just change the head gasket or swap the engine out. After looking around on this website for a couple of days I noticed a couple of people said that the dohc head in a daewoo will work with my block. Can anyone tell me what components I need to do this swap? Is the Daewoo Nubira the only Daewoo to come with the 2.0? How difficult of a job will it be...The most Ive done before is pulled the throttle body and fuel rail off and changed some fuel injectors out. I know just changing the head gasket is the easiest route but Im tired of the whole 110 horsepower slow as hell deal. Does anyone know if the 3 speed auto will handle the 140 horses the daewoo dohc supposedly makes?
Thanks

IDK about this daewoo thing, honeslty i know nothing about daewoo's however if your head/ headgasket is bad you can't drive it, or shouldn't be anyway. I'd look around @ some local boneyards. Things i would be concerned the most with would be coolant/oil passages. They have to line up exactly. I'd take your old headgasket and lay it out on the head. Another problem is tapped holes in the head for your accessories. Also is the Guides and runners for the Timing chain, def i'm guessin are different. Combustion Chamber location and Piston Clearence. Too many variables, doubtfull of it all coming together, and if it does what do you gain? I can get a 2.0L OHC head for $50.00 @ a nearby U-Pull-it yard. May be more of a problem more of a problem then its all worth. Good luck if you go the daewoo route. You should either jump on the 3.4L bandwagon.
If your car was a 91 i'd have an ECU and wiring for the 3.1L/5speed. But im pretty sure you have ABS.
