Clutch Issues

Ok heres the deal Im wondering if anyone has had the same problem. I installed a full Kevlar clutch from Zoom in my car with a NEW flywheel, I am on the Second Clutch now and have found its gone too.So basicly Ive went through 2 Full Kevlar Clutchs in 2 years, they only worked for about a year. When I installed the second clutch I found that the disc itself wasnt worn out but just glazed pretty bad and there was no issues with the pressure plate but I did notice that there was alot of wear in the fly wheel itself. I am about to install a stock clutch with hopes of a longer life. Has anybody else ever had this type of problem. BTW the car is almost stock.

how many miles did u get out of each clutch??? what brand of clutch was it??? was it a full face or a 3, 4 or 6 puck design??? kevlar on both sides or kevlar/sintered iron???

performance clutches dont last long. they arent designed to be "slipped" out, they are more designed for almost dumping. they are not very street friendly, and hate being used in heavy traffic.

I bought a heavy duty clutch from Mantapart. Had the flywheel resurfaced and it lasted 5 years. I put it in 2000 and just recently had to replace it. Was $300 delivered but it was worth it. I went cheap and bought a LUK clutch this time, and didn't get the flywheel resurfaced( like an idiot) and I probably will be buying another one in the not too distant future. Will probably go with the Mantapart clutch if I have the $, but who knows. Old 2.2, don't know how much past 280k it will live

my shop uses luk clutches 90% of the time. i beleive by stange 1 you are reffering to the luk pro gold performance clutch. ive put a few in, they are a nice clutch. they will hold more power, better pedal feel, and still get a smooth engauging clutch. they are great for people with bolt on mods.

The clutch is made by Zoom , It is a full Kevlar as in all pads are made with Kevlar. It has 8 pads on each side on a srung solid disc. It would be compareable with a stage 2 or 3 clutch. It had very good street manners for me but I drive had anyway. If this stock clutch doesnt hold I will be putting in a Spec stage 3 with aluminum flywheel. BTW most of my driving is highway with light traffic in city. Im about to start building a blown 3400 with all the goodies to put in the car so maybe this stock will hold for now.

just make sure that when you install a new clutch, be sure to have the flywheel resurfaced, unless you're going to buy the aluminum one. and even with an aluminum flywheel, you should replace the friction surface. Resurfacing gives it more to grab on to, and you will get a lot more life from a clutch before the surfaces get glazed. I know from experience. I've replaced the clutch in my car 4 times, over many years.
