Putting Cruise Control In Non Cruise Cavy?

I have a 1993 base coupe auto for a winter car, I was wondering if I could put cruise control in it. I would assume I would need the cruise unit, cables and lastly the steering column switches. Is that it? I am also wondering if I can do this to a 3rd gen but I will ask there.

I ahve the 2nd gen control unit, cable and bracket if you want it.. just paypal me shipping or something... It has a pretty big harness coming off it and some vacuum hoses plugged in that you will have to figure out. I can cut off the harness plug for you from my car if you can make it all work..

I had an aftermarket cruise put in my '90 a year or two after I got the car in '95, so that's another option as well. There's probably plenty to choose from. Just be sure you've got a VSS signal for it to actually operate off of. I was recently troubleshooting a misfire and during that process I went through a few ECMs/PROMs and found that 2 of the 3 I swapped in and out rendered my cruise control useless. If you don't have a VSS signal coming from your ECM then you'll have to take that into consideration. I believe in that case you can get an aftermarket one that comes with its own apparatus for getting a VSS signal, which if I'm not mistaken usually consists of magnets and a sensor for you to stick on an axle or something...at any rate, if this isn't something you want to tackle on your own then just phone around to a few garages and see if any of them deal with installing aftermarket cruise controls on a regular basis. You'll probably find one or two shops that do, and it may end up being cheaper to get them to do it than a shop that doesn't usually do that stuff but will tackle it anyway. The shop that did mine just used a stock GM turn signal staulk that had the required controls in it, so I didn't have to have a seperate control or an aftermarket turn signal staulk.
