Bad EGR?

Hmm...

I'm trying to see if I have a big or little problem here. I noticed an interesting issue
while driving today....

When the car is driving cold, with a little stop and go traffic, the cav almost stalls out.

Though once warm, then it just has a rough idle.

I've been updating the wagon the last six months...but this problem has me worried.

The cav still has a very, very rough idle, and it does seem to be getting worse.

Though my family seems to think the cav is about done, while I think it still has time..

We did an oil change last week, and while the oil was dirty, there was no surprises.
and the oil pressure idles just below the half mark, and while driving runs 60-70...

Anyways, what are some tell tale signs the the EGR is on its last leg?

(though I know one is gas milage, though after replacing the MAP sensor it is
better, but not great..)

Any help to shed light would be great....

Oh, forgot to add...93 wagon, 3.1, 130k...

Pull the EGR off and look at the bottom side. If there is anything holding it open, chunks of carbon or whatever, clean them out until the shaft inside or whatever you call it, seats at the bottom and closes. If you open the valve with your finger and plug the vacuum hole with a finger it should stay open, then take your finger off the vacuum opening and it should close. If it doesn't then the EGR is bad and needs to be replaced.Hope this helps

Just for info

On my '93 2.2 a small part of the egr gasket broke off/ went somewhere and a new gasket was all that was needed to put it back to rights

Hmmm...could be a bunch of carbon build-up...I can't remember if it has been cleaned
recently...

This EGR has been on the cav all of those 130k....bad gas and all.

Due to lack of a repair book...(can't find one here)...where is the EGR?

I know it is a dumb question...sorry.

I knew where it was on my 2.0.....and I think it is on top....but I do not want to assume...

Not much experience with V6 J's, but it should be on the intake manifold somewhere. It's the round metal thing with a vacuum hose attached to it.

Could the EGR be the cause of my valve ping?
