mine was sorta doing that but I took my cluster out and ended up greasing the cable line and it was fine.

thing worked after dinner so i dont know. I really dont want to take my cluster apart as i end up breaking things normally hehe. I thought 92 and up had the electric speedo's in them. I will try to move the ground tomorrow and see if that helps but i dont think its the ground as the car doesnt have any other trouble.

This is what im looking atm i also noticed that when i put a new dome light in the last time the speedo went to pot the light stayed on and odometer stoped working too . not sure if there is a bad wire somewhere or maybe a relay that is shot <or whatever GM was high when they built these cars >

Just a note from a 1st gen owner here,if u have a speedometer cable u need to lube the cable where it screws into the transmission with some white lithuim grease. This grease is sold at napa for SURE and the aeresol version will not work.It comes in a container like wheel bearing grease,u just need to put a good amount around the end of the cable end and screw it back in.This will correct the bounce,or irratic action.I do not know much about the electronic vss issues and how to resolve other than replacing the part itself.

cluster look like a phase 2, so it wont have a cable.

check the wires at your vss. i doubt that it, but worth a try. im thinking you have a bad ground somewere. your speedo may be trying to ground through the dome light curcuit and thats whats causing that to come on. check all your ground wires on the engine (the cluster and ecm ground to the bellhousing bolts) and make sure all of them are good. another thing you may want to try is attatching a wire from the steel bracing under the dash to a known good ground (shifter, seat bolt, ect). when i did my dash swap when there wanst a good ground, the car did all sorts of weird things, and the cluster not working right was one of them.

yeah im starting to think its the ground off the negitive battery cable <looks as if someone hacked into it>. it seem to also do this more when its wet also so that maybe it as the speedo cable into the transmission is completely dry. It is working fine today though so i dunno . and of course this weekend its cold as heck and my heater isnt working right <long story > damn car runs good though and smooth for 300 bills i cant complain just wished the heater worked atm LOL
