is there a big difference between the 2.8 and the 2.8 HO because i know there is two number for the 2.8 and the 2.8 HO because when i had to replace my engine( crack in the water jacket) the guy who put it in asked if it was a W or someother number and my vin comes up 2.8 HO... sorry if this is all mumble

there was a 2.8l HO in the fiero. this is a cast iron head motor and will not work in a j-body (except 85-86). i could list the difference, but id be here from a while. basicly, it wont work without major changes.

the ho had 140hp vs 130 on an aluminum head gen 2 motor in a j-body. basicly, throw a 3.1l in your car (it will bolt right up, run off the stock ecm, all that has to be swapped is the egr).

well when i put my vin number on like carfax it comes up 2.8HO and that is stock... so i was wondering whether it has the HO or what cause like i said when ihad to replace the origional engine the guy who put another 2.8 asked if it was a W vin or a i think K vin... which mine is the W and the vin says 2.8 OHV HO

there never was a 2.8l ho motor with aluminum heads, so its not a ho. carfax is wrong.

the 2.8l in all j-bodies is vin W. vin 9 is the 2.8l ho in the fiero, but its only in the fiero and some early citation x11's. vin K is a 2.0l turbo

thanx for the compliments, i do what i can to make the car look good, but do more to make it go faster and corner well.

i have had 4 years of 1st gen modding, most of it on my buddies 87. we swapped another motor into that car, swapped to an analogue 90 dash, then to a 92 dash and wiring harness, did countless alarm and stereo combos, air bagged it, custom front bumper. in all the parts swapping, you realy learn the differences quickly. my car is more basic, no massive swaps done to it. my car is an 86, has an 87 hood and valance, bird gt wing. 86 was a factory ironhead motor, so i mainly sourced fiero sites out for getting parts for it, and the core i started with is a 2.8l ho (vin 9) from a fiero, and i have fitted the fiero intake manifold.

basicly i just worked through stuff, mostly just finding out myself what works and what doesnt.

My '89 Z24 is listed that it has the 2.8L HO engine on the original build sheet from GM. I don't know what the difference is from a non HO.

the H.O. 2.8 is fuel injected.....the regular 2.8 is carbeurated, the 3.1 was always fuel injected hence the lack of the H.O.

thats not true. there was a HO carberated 2.8l in the 83-84 citation x11 cars. the only high output 2.8l is in the x11 and the fiero gt. the 87+ cavalier may have been called a ho 2.8l, but all 2.8l gen 2 motors are the same. im guessing they call it a ho because its the higher output motor for the car.
