i ve been planning for my build for a 3400 swap and im looking to slap on a new exhaust... i don't know if ill go turbo or not but i was wondering what was a good diameter and what's the biggest that would fit under a 2nd gen... and what do you have???
well i'm sure u could squeeze 2 1/2 inch piping under there, which is what i would use for a 3400 v6. i'm not sure if u could fit 3 inch under there without a lil shucking and jiving. right now i have 2 1/4 inch cause i only have basic mods and i didn't wanna throw all my torque out the window with the 2 1/2 inch.
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......
2.5 inch is the best Diameter for a 3400 setup. Thats about as big as you want to go with on a stock 3400 setup.
The one pain with the 3400 is the tightness between the firewall and the rear exhaust manifold and fitting the flange in there.
Here are pics from my original 2.5 inch setup (full mandrel) that I fab'd up for the bird about 4 years ago:
You can also fit 3 inch exhaust in there as well. under the car, However unless you are boosted you don't need 3inch.
My last setup consisted of the long tube equal length headers I built for the engine and ran dual 2inch Y'd into a 2.5inch single out the back.
From when I was fabricating them:

^^^^^^^ Awesome.
3" is where it's at for turbo guys.
Right now I am running a 2.25" open downpipe while the 3" turbo-back is in the works.
