Will the 2.2L engine out of a chevy S10 work in the J's? Other then being turned sideways to be rear wheel drive and a few things mounted different the look identical. I think if I took the motor down to just the block, head, and oil pan that the rest of the pullies and pumps cound bolt up to it using the brakets from the cavalier motor...... Am I correct?

Thanks for any info!
Travis

why not just get an engine from a J car? It's not like they're hard to find. Not around here anyway. Junkyards that let you pull your own parts are the best places to go, because you can get things alot cheaper. Anyway, the S10 engine will probably work, you'll just have extra bolt locations where the s10 motor mounts were, and you'll have to switch over brackets and stuff. I have never tried it before so I say probably, not 100% sure. If it were me I would stick with a 2.2 from a J, or a corsica.

Well thats a good point but i have the S10 in my yard.... my unkle left it here and moved to alabama so that motor would be free!! A motor from the junk yard would be like $150 so that would be $150 saved!! Thats why I asked!

depending on the year of your cavy and the year of the s-10 its doable if your just interchanging the block and heads everything else can be swaped from the cavy.

**changes are here**

It only flows opposite the J spec direction, and there are some extra passages in the head. It uses a different head gasket to block them.

Yes, the block is the same, but the crank is different between the 93 and 95 (you can use the 95 crank, you just won't be using the CPS).
