Dash Swap.. How Difficult?
Saturday, March 04, 2006 12:23 AM
Ok, so the dash in my 90 Cav is all cracked out and it totally sucked to start with. I want to swap in the dash from an RS, has the tach and actual gauges. I'm wondering how hard this would be, and also what I may have to modify to get all the instruments working. For the price of the dash to be swapped in I really want to change them out, and the center console. Any ideas? Hopefully someone has done this before and can tell me what to expect trying this.

Dash, I dunno. Never done that one.

Center console is real easy. just work from the top down taking it apart. IIRC you will need a long extension and a U-joint to get one of the nuts, otherwise its straight foreward.

Figure a day to get it out and a day to get it in...You should disconnect the dash wiring at the ECM and take it all out together, same for the new one...

Thanks for the info and pics.. Looks like a whole lot of work, but I can't stand the ugly beat up dash that's in my car. So considering my Cav is a 2.2 and the donor dash is for 3.1 car, I'm thinking the harness to the ECM will be different, right?

The dash wiring plugs into the wiring just before it reaches the ECM, so it shouldnt be a problem...but a V6 tach will read incorrectly in a 4 banger car...
