k, ever since i've done my top end rebuild i've had this issue....
car idle's like crap, low end acceleration isn't there....
today, thew code 45 for rich exhaust.
#2 cylinder has a problem and is either not fueling or not firing...
changed, plugs, wires, cap, coil, #2 injector, fuel filter. on my autometer boost guage i show a steady 18 on the vacum side... and boost to 5 slowly rise to 7.
pulled sparkplugs and all seem to be running quite rich. plugs have black soot/carbon on them. thought it might be a wiring issue, swapped #2 and #3 wiring harness to each injector with no such luck. compression is within the 10% generally allowed between cyl's with the highest being 150ish
at this point and time i am ripping my hair out trying to figure out what's going on with this damn motor....
list of parts replaced when top end was rebuilt
headbolts,
cam
cam followers
lash adjusters
headgasket (with gm one)
timing belt,
waterpump,
oilpressure sender
water temp sender (guage one)
valve cover gasket,
all new fluids,
delco plugs (since swapped_
rod bearings...
mods: 2.0 tubo swapped for TGP turbo
msd coil,
delco cap and rotor
msd 8.5mm wires
NGK TR5's currently in motor
msd replacement coil
2.5 highflow cat and catback exhaust
if any of the turbo guys could take a look at the above and maybe point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.... the next step at this point is going to be to get another stock FPR and swap that in as well as my other distribuitor and see if that makes a difference... any other suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated...

If #2 is not firing, do a noid light test on the injector and hook up a high energy ignition tester to it. The idle problem and low end problem are both probably because #2 isn't doing anything (if I read what you typed correctly.)
You need to find out if it is a spark, fuel or compression problem before anything else.

ive been helping him out and im fresh out of ideas
compression is 145 in number 2, the rest are 150. there is plenty of spark and the injector wiring checks out. the exaust smells rich, and its throwing the code, so fueling isnt the issue. only number 2 had soot on it, the rest of the plugs looked pretty normal.
minion do you have pics of your distribuitor with the cap off of it? i'm wondering if something didn't break inside the distribuitor

How was your base timing set after the rebuild? Did you have ALDL grounded? If the memory serves me well, its 8deg. Also, have you checked the timing belt alignment?
And yes, the car and/or rotor could be an issue. I would check end of each plug cable with the spark plug tester.

I had a heck of a time getting my timing lined up correctly after I did my 2.0 head gasket, definently check that out. I was just a tooth off and mine ran pretty crappy and it was throwing a code too, it might have been an O2 sensor code but I don't remember. If you haven't checked the O2 sensor then use a scan tool to make sure it's working properly, if it's not that I'd re check your timing.
You can't outrun the radio.
an update.
put in another distributor, the car accelerates like a raped ape, but still idles on 3 cyl. as soon as you come off idle, it pickes up the 4th cyl.
That sounds like a funny problem. Have injectors been ruled out yet?

Check the resistance across injectors (using multi-meter), and continuity of the injectors plugs, to the main plug underneath the intake manifold. Perhaps one of the wires might be pinched??
What do the other 3 plugs that work look like, vs the cylinder that is not working?

How do you know that #2 isn't firing? Is it just the bad idle that makes you think that?
Pull the spark plug wire of #2 and see if the idle changes at all.

we know #2 isnt doing anything because when we pull the injector wiring off the injector, the idle doesnt change. when we pull it off any other cyl, it stumbles and dies. same thing when we have the plug wire off.
we changed #2 injector, all the injectors check out. the #2 plug is all sooty were the others look just fine.
pull out the spark plug and see if fuel sprays out the plug hole.
