whats the differnence between the 3.1 and 3100? i know that a 3.1 is just a stroked 2.8 but are the blocks the same on the 3100? if so could i swap 3400 or 3800 heads onto my 3.1? maybe even the heads and supercharger off a 3800 sc

2.8/3.1 3100/3400 = 60º v6 which are the same family, you can swap the heads up from a 3100 or 3400 onto a 2.8/3.1. You cant swap the 3800 heads due to the engine being a 90º v6 block.

also i know the old buick 3.8 was a 90 degree but i wasnt sure that the new 3800 was a 90 degree. i thought it was a 60 degree block that was stroked from 3100 to 3800 with different heads.if anybody knows please enlighten me.

the new 3900 v6 in the G6 and other gm platforms is a 60º but isnt identical to the 3400. No no stock superchargers there use to be a few floating around, once in awhile one goes up on ebay.
a 3x00 swap is fairly simple, you just need 1 custom engine-to-mount bracket and switch over the 3.1 sensors. Pre 2000 3100's arent as good as 2000+ ones. The 2000 + 3100 is pretty much the same as a 3400.

all 3.8's were and will always be a 90° V6, same as the 3.0, 3.3, 3.5 (Short Star) and the 4.3.
60 degree blocks are:
2.8
3.1
3100
3400
3500
3900
check out www.Domesticcrew.com for everything you'll ever need to know about gen3 engines in a Jbody, take it from someone who just did the swap.... It's well worth it.
a 3.8 will bolt to the trans, swap the motor not heads. be a man and get dirty. weld mounts and swap the harness 70 more horse almost a hundred foot lbs over stock. evn more with the supercharged 3800.
