lean code + lean misfires
Friday, May 12, 2006 7:19 PM
my cavie has started to miss it only happens after approx 20 min hwy driving
it happens at about the same place every day and its getting really frustrating
hubbys a licenced mechanic hes scanned it and probed it and now is down to throwing parts at it.
new:
head gaskets& bolts
ignition module
coils x3
wires
plugs
fuel pump, tank, filter & sender
tps
iac
o2
map
fuel pressure = 38 - 45 psi when its missing and stumbling

were down to bad injectors or possibly crank sensor
however wouldn't a crank sensor cause no start or at the least a rich condition
help please

what about the ECM? Could the computer be bad?

Well, if it's anything like the ECM in my 4 cylinder, when the computer dies it runs in a Limp In mode, where it will run, but very rich and not smooth at all. If it were the ECM, I don't think it would cause it to only run rough once in a while.

On my '93 2.2 I had a fault where the engine would miss/stutter very slightly only when idling along i.e. not pulling and not on the over run slowing down.

I usually noticed it when driving through towns or other limits.

The local garage, finding it was throwing NO codes changed the crank sensor-it has been running smoothly ever since. Probably for around 120,000 kilometers/74,500 miles.

The car still started correctly and seemed to run OK with the old sensor so maybe that is the next thing for you to try

my 95 2.2l beretta did the same thing....in the end it was the EGR valve...you could try cleaning it

Take the crank sensor back.

Lean condition is mostly caused by extra air entering the engine that the computer doesnt allow fuel for.

Clean the egr valve...... no codes present...... valve only works after operating temp is reached and engine is under a load.
: Allows exhaust gas to re-enter the engine through the intake.
: Valve will open after the alloted time, carbon particles from the exhaust will get lodged in the valve, keeping it from closing once the valve isnt being used by the computer.
: Symptoms,,, Rough idle sometimes to the point of stalling.
,,, 25-35 mph surging. car slightly jerks at this speed.
,,, May have to use both feet at a stop sign
,,, off idle free rev car runs fine
