Well, the combination of New England humidity and the New Hampshire Turnpike Authority's prolific use of road salt have taken their toll on my poor 93 Cavalier. I knew the bottoms of the doors, the rockers, and the front of the quarters were starting to get thin. I was even planning on some rust repair and a repaint this winter. But I found some large rust holes in front of the strut towers in the engine compartment today which has convinced me the poor ole J is gonna go. I can't seem to convince myself that I should fix the problems when I should be able to get a rust free southern or western car for $500 to $1500. I'm gonna keep running the poor thing, maybe we'll get another year out of 'er. But I'll be looking for a replacement the entire time. I guess I didn't do too badly. We bought the car in '96 with 104k miles. Today it has 283k on the odometer. The total investment in this car is probably around $5.5k including the second engine and turbocharger and all the maintenance. It's been dang good to me. The killer is that the undercarriage is absolutely beautiful! Oh, well... rust is just another form of cancer.
Oh, and if anyone knows of a nice 2nd gen Cavvy for cheap, please lmk. I'd prefer a 2.2 5 speed strippy, but I'm not against stripping a Z24 of it's heavy V6 auto just to annoy the 6 cylinder guys.

Sorry to hear that. Keep this car around though, as i know you are involved in the odb1 ecm project. She'll make a great project car.

ROFL, I LOVE IT!!! Too bad about the '93, but at least you got a lot of use out of it. Much better than say, never having a car last even a year
fortune cookie say:
better a delay than a disaster.
Sorry to hear about the cancer!
I'd say you got your moneys worth out of it, though. 10 years, $5.5k and 179k miles and all the play time with her, you did good.
It's time to get rid of her once, and for all. Had it sold to Jakerooni, but he was injured, and unable to come get the car due to his injury, so I had to keep it, now I have another vehicle, so this one has to go:
1989 z24 5spd, blue exterior, and blue interior.
the good:
Car has 180+k on the body, is an arizona car originally.
Has about 60k on the 2.8 v6.
Has a tranny out of a 91 z in it.
Runs pretty good.
Car has no rust, except a little surface rust on the bottoms of the doors.
It has been the most reliable vehicle i've ever owned, and would not be afraid to drive it across the country.
Lots of new/newer parts including; struts, balljoints, driveshafts, alternator, plugs, wires, coils, lower intake gasket, thermostat, exhaust pipe.etc.
Has aftermarket 14in. rims on it.
Interior is in ok shape, could use a lil tlc.
The bad:
Leaks some oil, out of the rear main seal.
on occasion u can barely hear a ticking lifter, might just be where I gutted the cat converter, but was told replacing lifters would solve the problem.
Gonna need some tires within 7500 miles.
Got some paint peel, and a spot on the hood that could use a little bondo, and paint.
Asking $1200 BO. I don't wanna sound like a dick, but I have seen numerous z24s in way worse shape going for $1800+, so please no low balling, this car is a steal for the money, and would be a great starting point for a 3400 project. I will be posting pics on monday. I'm located in southwest ohio about 25 miles northeast of cincy. Need this car gone asap.
Thanks
Jon

Wasn't really looking for an ad... an email would have been ok.
Anyway, thanks guys for the support and offer. I've already found a replacement car. It's a 94 with 76k miles. Almost a strippy.. it's a 2.2 auto with ac. I'll be replacing the trans with a manual. The interior's the same color as our 93, and the exterior was purple but has been rattle can painted black. The OE color is ok with me since the wife wants a purple car and I really dreaded a color change. Sale price $600, with snow tires and a decent "system" to boot.
